Got the test results

Well I saw the doctor yesterday and the test results said I have simple hyperplasia with atypia. This is to go along with the fibroids that make my uterus the size of a 4 month old fetus. She drew a little graph and showed me where that was on the cancer scale. Fortunately it's near the beginning but the atypia are unusual shaped cells that mean it's pre-cancerous. She said she could try a D&C first, then follow that up again in a 3 to 4 months with another D&C or at least a biopsy. Well due to other health problems, that make surgery even more risky for me. I've decided to go ahead with the hyst, but I think I'm going to keep my ovaries. This way I only have to go under once instead of 2 or 3 times. I don't have an actual surgery date yet, but it will be at the end of Feb due to scheduling problems for me. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but I think I'm making the right decision for me. Personally if I didn't have the scheduling issues, I'd just as soon get it done sooner rather than later due to the pain and discomfort I'm in. Just wanted to share my information.

Got the test results

Hi oceanozzie,
I certainly share your desire to be DONE with all the strain and doctor visits and feeling lousy!!
On Dec 1st, I had a D&C with hysteroscopy for fibroids and polyps, and in the path report afterward learned that I, like you, was in a pre-cancerous state with cells that were atypical, crowded and even some complex. But the procedure took care of that. Did your doc mention progesterone at all? I was on high dose progesterone for two weeks prior to the surgery and between that and the D&C itself, the lining of the uterus looks good now. Since I was awake during the surgery, I even got a "tour" of my uterus thanks to a spiffy high-tech monitor and a hysteroscope...in living colour! Ha!
All this is to say that it might be worth getting a second opinion, because I was feeling really crummy before the surgery, with heavy bleeding, frequent periods, and anemia. Now, though, I am "overdue" for a period and feel strong again! It's AMAZING! I had my post-op visit yesterday and my doc said I don't have to have another sonohystogram for a year. (Unless, of course, I begin to bleed heavily again or something.) We'll see. But I'm pleased to think I've escaped the hyst for now. I'm 50 and my children are grown, but still wanted to avoid a hyst if something less than major surgery would do it.
I recognise that no two situations are identical, so totally respect your decision. Please keep us posted on how you're doing with it.
