Soy is a weak form of estrogen and estrogen may feed endo. It might be a good idea to check with your dr to see if it is okay for you to eat soy or take any supplements.

I think whether endo comes back or not depends largely on how you are treated postop, i.e. if the doctor puts you on any progestin therapy to "burn out" remaining endometrial tissue. I was on progestin only therapy for 3 months postop. Since then, I have been on and off estrogen therapy with and without progesterone. I haven't had any problems with endo returning. I think it's best to ask your doctor though.

Will my endo return if I take soy?

I eat small amounts of soy.. My endo came back, just recently after five years. At first I was on progesterone, then both estr/progest. And when I switched docs, and forms of Hrt, went to a vaginal cream for dryness. apparently.... that "upped" my dose of estrogen(you have to factor in the vaginal cream as part of your overall dose if you have endo, because a small amount is also absorbed through the vaginal walls into the blood stream, says my newest doc) whom specializes in endo and other girl troubles.... and I became estrogen dominant. I am not saying it was the soy, both me and my doc feel that it was the estrogen.(although soy acts as a weak estrogen, it would take large amount of consumption to maybe get any triggers for endo, says my doc. But do talk to yours!!! )And within 4 months....My endo returned. But the good news in all this is... I went back on high doses of progesterone, lowered my estrogen to practically nothing and added testosterone(barely any)And I don't feel any more pain! It is working!!!!!! Whatever you do be careful. Endo for those of us who have it, is horrible.
talk to your doc. Good Luck.

CC: Were you on a progestin or progesterone postop? I'm curious because I tend to convert progesterone to estrogen, but that doesn't happen with the Aygestin, which is what I was on postop. Also, how do you know your endo is back and it's not adhesions?

I was immediately placed on PremPro, which is a progestin... Bummer for me...Now I am on Bio-Identicals, and I feel much better, I know it is back, because, it aches in the same way it did before. And my dr. ran some tests and could see the same spots, inflammed and bleeding." he calls it" Free Fluid" bleeding, caused by the endo inflamming the back wall of my abdominal cavity(sounds gross huh?). Mine never spread to any other parts of my body So far.... "It," after the first Lap, and finally the hysterectomy, came back in the same spots. Weird but true.. My doc says it should go down on the newest strength of progesterone, and it really has.

PremPro is synthetic estrogen and synthetic progesterone. Did you mean Provera?

I'm so sorry your endo has come back. I would hate so much for all this hell I've been through to be in vain, with the endo coming back. I did have it on my colon and bladder. So far so good. I've have been on minimal amounts of hormones. For a while I tried the Vivelle Dot and once and a while I felt some twinges of pain that were hauntingly familiar and I wonder if it was the endo flaring up.

No, I meant PremPro.... I know, I know What were they thinking?! Unfortunately, I had not heard of Bio-identicals, until(I'm a navy wife)my Provider transferred, and I got assigned to a woman Doc, whom after MANYattempts to try out Prempro, Premarin Estratest, and then Estrace, and others.......Gave me a pamphlet on a pharmacy that made bios. That very day, I went in there, and in tears talked to the pharmacists. At first I thought, that they thought, I was nuts. But after they talked with me for awhile, and made an appt. with their Np, I felt relief for the first time since my surgery. I worry too (a lot actually) that my Endo will spread now that it is back, but I am very careful now, and I try not to upset my hormones that much, it has become at times, exhausting watching my diet,(my entire life is now organic) trying different supplements, and herbs, over the years trying to help my body... and all I end up doing is making my Endo flare up, and giving myself more menopause symptoms. oh, well, I am glad to have women like you to share these thoughts with, as I don't know of another in my circle that has had a hysterectomy, and the comfort and validation I feel here is wonderful, Thank you,
