special vitamins

Hi ladies,
I had a TAH (left ovary left) back in April and I was wondering should I be taking any speacial vitamins because of the organs removed. I fiqure I must be missing some nutrients or something. Does anyone have any suggestions for something over the counter to take?

Hi
Here in Australia, they talk a lot about 'natural' remedies for menopause problems if you have those, like soy and various other naturopath medicines which help the hormones. I have also been taking Vit C and zinc to help with healing, but you are probably past that stage. I think calcium is also important to help prevent loss of bone density. And iron if you are anaemic.

Just asked my Dr. that today...

When I asked my doctor if I should be taking anything special she told me "no". She said it was up to me if I took an over the counter multi-vitamin, but I should get all I need from food, if I eat healthy. I then specifically asked about calcium, and again she said I should get all I need if I eat healthy, but since I hardly drink milk and eat dairy she suggested taking Tums.

I'm probably going to get a good multi-vitamin and start taking that sometime this week since I know I don't eat enough veggies and dairy.

You should speak to your dr about what you need to take. Most drs will tell you that you should take calcium with vitamin D to help prevent osteoprosis, which comes with menopause. Of course everyone's circumstance is based on health and family history. I take extra calcium because osteo is rampet in my family. s to you!
