anyone have to come home with a cathedar? Question
Hi everyone. I just thought I would try some advise here first before calling my nurse. I had a radical hyst. one week and two days ago. My Dr. sent me home with a cathedar that goes through my stomache. I have to wear this thing for over three weeks while my bladder heals. Any way, a few days ago I noticed some small blood clots in the tube and a feeling of pressure in the uretha. The pressure is much worse today, feels like I have to urinate. I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen? I am finding that not many people have gone home with their cathedar. Any advise would be helpful, Thank you!

suprapubic catheter question
I came home with one from my bladder sling. I only had it for 8 days and didn't have any problems with it other than I hated it. My suggestion is to call the Dr., don't mess around with that, you can get really sick.

I'd call the doc!
I came home with the more traditional Foley catheter for 10 days following a radical hyst. And I thought that was bad! I didn't have any real trouble with it , other than a huge annoyance! I didn't realize what a large urine output I had!!!!
I would definitely call the doc's office, though, because something doesn't sound quite right. You sure don't want to end up back in the castle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luv,
monami

suprapubic catheter question
I had a foley catheter for 6 days. I hated every moment of it. It was so uncomfortable. If you look over at Bladder Matters, you will find many women who have had a cath, and several have had the subpubic like you have.
I had pressure and urge to pee when I had the cath also. I don't have any advice. Hopefully, someone can give you some.

suprapubic catheter question
Hi Krista I've moved your post over here to the Bladder Matters forum and re-titled it so that (hopefully) other ladies who've had suprapubic catheters can see it and reply.
I came home with a Foley for a week, and had no problems with it. I would definitely give the DR a call and ask about the blood clots and increased pressure - that doesn't sound normal to me.
Let us know what you find out, OK?
 s,
-Linda

suprapubic catheter question
Krista,
I had a suprapubic catheter after my prolapse surgery, but only had it about 9 days I think (hated every minute of it!) I would definitely call your dr. Don't remember ever seeing clots althugh being very early in your recovery I would imagine you may be still bleeding. You may have a UTI or something else and your dr. should know about it. Hope you feel better soon and remember to take it very easy!

suprapubic catheter question
Krista,
I ended up having a surgery to fix my bladder 10 days after my TAH and came home with the suprapubic catheter for 6 weeks. I hated it but by the end of 6 weeks when it got pulled, I found myself feeling odd without it. I don't remember there being any blood clots go through it, but I do remember seeing pale "fuzzy looking" things go through. I would definitely call the doctor's office about it. Take care!

suprapubic catheter question
Hi Krista.
I had a sp catheter from July-November last year. On occasion, there was blood in it, but that was when I had a bladder infection. The SP catheter can cause an irritation in the lining of the bladder and that can turn into an infection. The best thing is to check with your doctor. They can do a urinalysis using fresh urine coming out of the tubing in your belly.
Was your bladder injured during your hyst or was there a planned repair?
Hope you feel better soon! Those first couple of weeks after the hyst are not much fun.
Let us know how you are doing!
Dee

suprapubic catheter question
Hi,
I had a radical hysterectomy and had a suprapubic catheter for five weeks after my surgery.
I do remember having a few clumps of blood in the tube, I asked my doctor and he said it wasn't anything to worry about. I don't remember having a feeling of pressure. I was on antibiotics the entire time I had the catheter to prevent an infection.
Though I did adjust to having it, I was so happy to get it out. Don't hesitate to call your nurse with questions, I think I drove mine crazy the first few weeks.
Hope you feel better and your recovery goes well.
