Starting to freak a little

Hi Everyone. I am scheduled for a LAVH on Feb 7 and am totally starting to freak out. I have my pre op visit with my GYN on Jan 30 and am wondering what questions I need to ask. Since I seen him last, I had two cysts rupture on my left ovary (we were planning to leave the left ovary and take everything else). Should I just ask him to take the left ovary since I have been having trouble with that one as well? And OMG I just was reading a post about VAGINAL PACKING? Holy crap! How long is the usual hospital stay for a hysterectomy? I am really starting to freak. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Starting to freak a little

Hi Jesdil,
First thing, take a deep breath. If you were not freaking out a little there would be something wrong. We have all or are all going to be right where you are now. You have our support to lean on when it just gets too much. The decision to keep or leave the ovary is between you and your dr. but I know that the two of you will make the right decision for you. The average hospital stay seems to be anywhere from 2 days to 4 or 5 days depending on the procedure.
Keep writing in, getting information from other sisters is a good thing. Or even if you need to vent!!!

Starting to freak a little

I didn't have any vaginal packing (that I know of, IV meds kept me pretty much out of it for the first few hours lol) I would definately talk with the doc about the left ovary just because it is a concern of yours, never hurts to bring things up that are on your mind.
I couldn't tell what kind of hysterectomy you're having in your profile so the hospital stay is something I can't really comment on....I had a LAVH, left both ovaries...I was in the hospital for about 1 1/2 days...had surgery at 8am on a monday and was home by 3:30 tuesday.

Freaking out is normal as well...I was awful the closer the surgery came to happen..but what was really odd, well I thought it was but have read alot of people experience this, is that the day before surgery I was completely calm and so ready for it. I even was wheeled into the OR while I was joking with the A lady and a nurse.

If you have any questions you can private message me and I will try to answer them as best I can, but remember, if you really need an accurate answer, call your doc...thats what they are there for, and every doc does things just a bit differently.

Starting to freak a little

Hi Deb, thanks for responding. I have talked with my DR before about taking the left ovary but he is worried about me starting HRT so young (I am 31) but I told him I really don't care if I have to take a pill everyday...I just want to feel healthy and "normal" again. And actually, he talked about keeping the left ovary before I had the ruptured cysts so maybe he will change his mind.

Thanks for your advice!

Dancndrgon...thank you for your response as well. I have my pre-op appt on Jan 30 and I have a list of questions that I have to ask him so I will for sure be asking about the left ovary. The last time I saw him, (which was in Oct.) the plan was to do a LAVH, leaving the left ovary. I don't know if things will change or not but I do know that I am scared as HECK! I am so worried about weight gain. I have gained some weight since I have been having all of these GYN problems (he banned me from all exercise because I would bleed heavily afterwards). My cousin LOST alot of weight after her hyst. I guess it just depends on the woman, right? UGH!!!!!! I am nervous for the surgery but I am kind of excited to have the pain BE GONE!

I see you are from Lansing. I am from the Niles area.
