A few questions about Laparoscopy
I was wondering if some of you stay overnight for a laparoscopy? Mine is supposed to be outpatient. I was reading some posts where some spend the night in the hospital and mention having catheters. Is that for a laparotomy or also a laparoscopy?
Also, what do they do for pain control after you wake up from a laparoscopy?
They said they would have to blow up my stomach with gas to see and then have to get it out. I know that trapped gas is very painful. I had that with my TAH. Have any of you had the terrible gas pains with the laparoscopy like you did with a hysterectomy?

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I had had laparoscopic surgery several times.
When I had my LAVH in 2002 (uterus and cervix removed) I spent one night in the hospital.
When I had the ovary removal (2004), adhesion/tumor removal (2005) and the most recent surgery (2006) I had the laparoscopic surgeries done as out-patient surgery. (I am currentl y 2 weeks post-op from the most recent surgery). I had cathetars with all the surgeries - they were inserted after I was given anesthesia and removed before I woke up.
I was given IV pain medication until I woke up and then switched to Percocet pills.
I had some gas pains after each surgery - not too bad. With the most recent surgey I have had some shoulder discomfort from the gas. If I lay on my right side it seems better.
In the past I have had nasty nausea after surgery - this time they put an anti-nausea patch on me before I went into surgery and it made a huge difference.
Depending on the extent of the work I have had done my recoveries have ranged from 4 - 12 weeks.
I wil be praying that your surgery goes well.
Take care.

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I did too. I had a laproscopic hysterectomy and stayed overnight, but my Dr. says that I will be going home after this one.

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I had a LSH and stayed overnight. With my explor Lap surgery I had a cyst drained and scar tissue removed. My surgery was done on a Wednesday and scheduled back to work the following Monday. Recovery was a snap. My stomach was HUGE from the gas but was gone within a week. Completely different from the swelly belly I got with my laparotomy. I didn't have the shoulder pain from a air bubble with my surgery. I had it with a previous c-section and was so greatful that i didn't.
Good Luck
Vicky

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I had laproscopic surgery to remove my left ovary and some adhesions on 1/13. I had some of the shoulder pain with this surgery (I have not had that with my other laps). I went home about 4 hours after my surgery and I took percoset for pain. It's been about a week since my surgery and I am still a bit sore and a little more tired than usual.

A few questions about Laparoscopy
My laparoscopy was also outpatient, and I was discharged from the hospital and on my way home about 3 hours after the surgery ended. Had absolutely no pain from the gas they used and no catheter, but a little queasy feeling from the anesthesia. The pain meds they give intravenousley while in surgery give some relief from pain for awhile the first day. Then they'll tell you to take Advil and give you a prescription for Percoset or similar meds. I only needed the pain pills for the first 4 days, and then felt like I could cope without them after that.

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I had three lap procedures before my hyst and for two of those (the most recent by some years) I was in and out in a day. The gas is quite painful but not as bad as with the hyst in my case. Good luck!

A few questions about Laparoscopy
I have had two laps that were outpatient and am having a hysterectomy on Feb. 10th, my dr said I will go home the same day unless there are complications. Two girls I work with also had him as a dr. and both went home the same day as well. He's an advanced surgeon but not sure if that has anything to do with it.
The gas was awful with my past laps, even bad enough that I thought about having the upcoming hysterectomy or not. I don't want to scare you because it's definately different with everyone but it's the worst pain I've felt besides having my tonsils removed!
