I hope everyone is keeping as well as can be expected. I have not posted on these boards lately - I have been bombarded from all angles with health problems connected to my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Connective Tissue Disorder).
Since my TAH BSO in May 2004, I have had a 3rd Colonoscopy, a Cystoscopy, and on Thursday this week I am scheduled for my 3rd knee operation (that will be my 12th op in the last 10 years). I am seeing an ankle surgeon tomorrow who is likely to suggest even more surgery, I have lost control of the muscles in my eyes so they no longer focus properly and I see double of everything - surgery was contemplated for that but the opthalomologist decided it would be a "disaster" becuase of the inherent weakness of my ligaments and muscles, and once I recover from the knee surgery I am going to have a Cervical & Lumbar MRI as my orthopod now suspects I have Spinal Canal Stenosis. Oh yeah, my consultant also thinks I may have a hiatus hernia as well and I am waiting to have a Barium Swallow to check that out.
Anyway, my reason for posting was not to have a rant or ask for sympathy (honest), but instead to ask if anybody would be able to point me in the direction of some useful links regarding Bladder Sling surgery (using mesh) as my Uro-Gynae has decided I am a suitable candidate for this procedure and thinks it will help support my hypermobile bladder and alleviate my stress incontinence.
If anybody can help me I would be very grateful, as I have been struggling to find anything on the net, or in the resources section.
Wow, I can't even begin to imagine. You sure have been through a LOT. I do have some links that might be able to help you investigate this. I had a transobturator tape for stress incontinence put in last June. It has totally cured my stress incontinence. I have had some problems since then but not with the stress incontinence. I have had bladder sling vaginal erosion problems but the TOT sling has held up well. A good place to start is http://www.augs.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=214 where slings are explained in an overview very well. Another good resource is Pelvicfloor.com where there are some graphic pictures so be careful if you don't want to view the pics, don't go too far into the site. Just read the info available on the first pages. I liked looking at everything myself. Another excellent place to see much is http://www.tvtsling.com/tvt.php. They show nearly everything here so be warned. There is a lot to see. I hope this helps you out some. Sending along some S, too............
Thank you so much for the links. The first one I found particularly useful. I wonder though how successful the bladder sling would be for me as it seems as though it is connected to the connective tissue and as I have Ehlers Danlos - which is a connective tissue disorder - this may not work.
Having said that, my Uro-Gynae tole me the other day that he did his thesis on Connective Tissue Disorders and Incontinence so I guess I should be able to trust his judgment.
Thanks again, as i said i had terribly trouble trying to find anything myself, and I am usually quite good at tracking things down on the net.
