Is an "internal" exam done at 2 weeks? nervous

Hi there - I had a vaginally assisted lap hysterectomy and am going in for my 2 week check up next week. I am still very sore and spotting in the vaginal area (I've always had really sensitive skin there too) and am ready to cancel the apt and say I have car trouble or something if my Doc, who is very kind and gentle does a vaginal exam - So, is that normally done? I suppose I could just call his nurse, but don't want them thinking I'm weird,,,,,,

So, just wondered?

Thanks - Claire

Is an "internal" exam done at 2 weeks? nervous

Hi Clarie,

I had a LSH and I did not have an internal exam at 2 weeks. I was still healing too. My Dr. mostly looked at my small hip incisions to make sure they were healing correctly. And he just asked about my overall health and how I was doing in post-op. I did have an internal exam at my 6 week appointment. Hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Mary

I had TAH and didn't have an internal exam at 2 weeks. Just looked at my incision and asked how I was feeling and really just talked about the surgery itself. I had my first pelvic exam at 4 weeks and though I know your surgery was different from mine, I can say that it didn't hurt at all.

Is an "internal" exam done at 2 weeks? nervous

Hi Claire
I had a tvh, recotocele and bladder sling and was very tender at two weeks, but my dr did do an internal exam. I was honest with him about my apprehensions and he assured me it would be ok and it was. It didn't even hurt. Just talk to him about it. It will be ok. Some do and some don't.

I had a TAH. At my two week exam the doctor said he was going to do an internal check. I suppose he wanted to view all the areas that were healing. I asked several times if he thought the internal was a good idea. It didn't hurt one bit. Whew! It offers hope for renewed relations with dh.

I'm so glad you asked this question!! I was thinking of posting the same question myself. I had my surgery on Jan. 16th (LAVH BSO). My 2 week check up is this Monday. I am VERY nervous about the doctor doing an internal exam. I hope she doesn't want to do that!! I can't imagine!!!!! OUCH !!!!!!!

Is an "internal" exam done at 2 weeks? nervous

Due to complications after the hyster (TVH), I had internal exams at 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 weeks. The first one was not like going for an annual, just checking swelling and seeing if the abscess could be felt. Two weeks a little more probing, but nothing that made me cringe. I would just suggest taking Tylenol or Motrin an hour before you go, if you are concerned.

Good luck!

Re: Internal exam at 2 weeks

Hi, all - wow, those are some quick answers! It's cool to have so much support, and I just heard and joined this web site yesterday! I feel kind of silly fussing over something so minor when I've been pretty lucky really health wise, but I would get kind of nervous on just a normal yearly exam,,,,,,,,

I went shopping today to buy a back pack for my son who is 5 and was only gone and hour and a half and am worn out! I have no energy. I take a shower and need to lay down after,,,It will be nice to be recovered and get things back to normal!

Thanks to all of you who replied so quickly! I will relax a bit but I might take some Advil or something the day of the apt, just in case,,,,

Have a good weekend all! Thanks again, Claire
