2 weeks post-op

Hi, I'm new here. I had my LAVH on April 2nd. I'm wondering if anyone had a speedy recovery. Before I had my surgery I would read the posts on the message boards and it seemed like everyone had complications and that really scared me. I have my drs appointment tomorrow and I'm hoping I can get back to my walking, I was walking almost 3 miles 5x a week. Do you think I should avoid walking up a hill for awhile? I'm not sure if that will do some pulling on my stomach. Anyways I'm feeling really good and don't even require a nap anymore in the afternoon! So I quess my question is...are there other people that have done as well as I seem to be doing?

I did!

Two weeks is still pretty early in recovery, but I can't lie; I was in the malls slowly at 2-3 weeks. I made myself walk. I'd okay your walking uphill with the doc, but I had the TAH/BSO and a tummy tuck, walked myself tired as much as I could. Around 8 weeks I was back to mowing the lawn, gardening, etc. I still get tired, but I rest when this occurs. I don't see the GYN for a year (I don't have to go but every three, but I go every year just for my own good) and I don't see the plastic surgeon till July. I sceduled the mammogram for next month; the first since the hyst! They are both amazed at my recovery, very pleased with my recovery too. I work out, slow up if there is any pulling, but I don't think anyone should do any kind of exercise without the doc's okay and wait till 4 weeks.
I'm not the typical recovery, even the drs said so; I was off pain meds completely, the 9th day after surgery; I didn't diet either. Just keep taking good care of yourself; ytou don't want to suddenly over do it and cause a setback..it's so worth it to pace yourself!! Hugs!!

Don't hit the three week wall!

Hi,
I felt like Superman at two weeks...but hit the infamous three week wall. You still have anesthetic in your body tissues, which is numbing all the places that the work was done. At three weeks, this goes away. I would proceed very slowly and carefully.

Don't walk hills!!! At 3 weeks I was feeling terrific and my DH and I ventured out for our daily walk. This time we strutted up a hill. It didn't feel to bad. Well we ahd to come back down that hill. I found that to be more difficult (that could have been because I was tired). I was down all the next day. Walk on a flat solid surface as much as possible.

As Harley points out you still have meds in your system helping you out. Be very careful and make sure you get enough resting in. So many feel great and do something they are sorry for later.

Linda P makes a good point about asking your Dr about walking hills. If he ok's it, I would proceed with caution. Hills are tough on the new hyst body. Start real small and work up. This is best to remember with any thing concerning exercise.

Many blessings
Jody
