Difference in patch sizes?

I just got a Rx for the .1 patch. I had been using two of the .05's. I thought from what I remembered from being on the .1 patch before that they were all the same size but the patch is literally double the size of the other one. I just thought they put more medicine in the same size patch but it's much bigger.

Difference in patch sizes?

The generic patches are bigger. My doctor told me not to get those, bigger and thicker for some reason.

Difference in patch sizes?

These aren't supposed to be generics. They are the Vivelle Dots.

Difference in patch sizes?

Right now I am on the Climara patch, and will start the Vivelle after my last Climara is done. With the Climara, they were the same size, sorry, don't know about the vivelle dot. How big are they?

Difference in patch sizes?

I found the answer to my own question on the "Survivor's Guide to Surgical Menopause" site.

"Vivelle Dot is a transdermal bioidentical estradiol patch. It is supplied in doses of 0.0375, 0.05, 0.075, and 0.1 mg and is changed twice a week. The larger the dose, the larger the patch—the delivery system is of the same “strength” per unit of area. It may be cut to modify the dose; dose reductions are proportional to the area of patch removed."

Difference in patch sizes?

That is interesting, I have used 3 different doses of Climara, and they have all been the same(I think anyway.. )

So how big are they? The dots?

Difference in patch sizes?

Hi Carol!

Last year when I was at my doctor's office there was an advertisement posted which showed the various Vivelle Dots by dose/size. The 0.1 is largest of all the doses. The lower the dose, the smaller the Dot.

The 0.1 Dot measures about 1" x 1 1/2".

Hope this helps!

Difference in patch sizes?

When I upped my Climara dose from .375 to .5, the patch got larger.

Thinking like an engineer, which I was for many years, I imagine the manufacturer just makes one "sheet" of coated patch material and cuts the patches smaller or larger to meter out the doses. Does that make sense?

Interesting too, I actually worked for 12 years for the company who now makes the Climara patch. But I worked in a different division. I'm a life coach now, but my husband still works for this company and as a result, I get my patches covered for free! Thank God I don't have any reactions to this form of delivery! Yea!

All the best,

~Lilbelle
