Surgery Fears
Hi I am new at this. I am having a Hyst on Feb 10th and as the days get near I am more axious of the post-op days. My doctor said that I would not need hormmons since I am keeping my ovaries but from what I read it looks like I will. Is it a thing that all Hyst patients have to do even though they keep the ovaries? How about weight gain ? I am laready a heavy person and have to put off my weight lost plan becasue of the operation. The last thing I need if More weight!!! I am so anxious I can't stand it... Well some day are better than others but and I haven't even had suregry yet! What are the most common side effects? I need all the info I can get .
thanks!

Hi Seannetti,
I'm a surgery wimp too. I'd like to know what you read about needing hormones if keeping ovaries. I'm having a radical hyst and kind of getting various opinions on whether ovaries "go to sleep" or not.
I have read that any pelvic surgery can cause ovarian failure.
I had an open myo so far and a few hot flashes after that but ovaries are normal.
Did have major bowel issues after surgery. Like trapped gas and constipation.
Helen
Best wishes and I hope you find your answers here

Hey Seannettie,
I know that the waiting is hard, God Bless you and grant you the peace you need.
I have had friends who were on HRT and weight gain was minimal. Since it sounds like you have plans for a program after you recovery, I think you will be on the right track.
Lean on God and accept his gift of the sisters here to help you on your journey. Don't be afraid, you are in great hands.
peace

PS- I"m a duh!
Forgot to add that my doctor prescribed 1mg of ativan for fear and anxiety. I can take it once daily but only use it when I'm extra anxious.

Surgery Fears
Hello Seannetti,
I can completely understand where you are at right now. I can hear myself in your words. I want to share my experience with you. I had begun my menstrual cycle the week before my scheduled TAH. Needless to say, the reason for my hysterectomy was because of severe bleeding. The night before my surgery, I was bleeding so heavily that I soaked a sanitary napkin from front to back. This added to my anxiety because I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know how it (the bleeding) would affect the surgery. I remember lying on the bed the morning of the surgery waiting for them to take me into surgery. I was surrounded by my husband, supervisor (and friend), and another friend. When the staff came to wheel me into surgery, my "support group" prayed for me as I cried. I truly believe that the support and prayers helped me get through the process. I said all of that to say that if you have a support group, utilize them. I am sure that you have a competent physician who will perform his job flawlessly. It seems so cliche' when people told me "You'll be fine" but in the end they were right. I am fine and on the road to recovery. Sure, I am going bonkers not being able to perform at my normal pace, but I know that eventually I will be able to. The best advice I can give you is be patient and let your body heal. You need to heal internally as well as externally. Allow others to take care of you for a while and be sure to take care of yourself. If you remember, please send me an email and let me know how the surgery went. I hope that I was able to help you feel better. Trust me, I understand.
Take care...Let go and let God

I am sorry I did not replay sooner. Well It all went well with just a minor complication withe removal of my Uterus it was covered by a fibroid muscle caused by the 3 c-sections, that was as hard as cement (acording with the DR). What I have read is the after some time 1 year or so ) they stop working and have to endup with HRT. even my Dr told me that too. Oh well I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it. For now I just wish I could feel better Gas pains and a pulled groing muscle has me so down. I just want to feel normal.
Thanks !
