Hormone therapy for smokers?

I have a tennis ball-sized fibroid and have had massive bleeding, anemia and a little pain. The Dr said I can choose to either have a hysterectomy or continue to use Provera, which doesn't work very well, to manage my cycles. I was also told homone therapy is not an option because I smoke (I know, I know). I know I need to get a second opinion but I am currently unemployed and my insurance is about to run out. My thinking is to go ahead and get the Hysterectomy while I'm already not working and just get it over with. Any suggestions??? And any info on why smokers can't have hormone therapy?

Hormone therapy for smokers?

Hormones can cause DVT (blood clots in your deep veins) which can be very serious. I believe there is a bigger risk for this when smoking and over the age of 35.

Hormone therapy for smokers?

Personally, I wouldn't rush into getting a hysterestomy if there was even the slightest chance that symptoms could be managed by other means. If I were you, I would get another opinion since there are lots of options for your type of problem. Also, I know of smokers who have received hormone therapy. Yes there is an increased risk but I think everyone is allowed to take risks as long as they have the full information. Your Dr doesn't sound very helpful.
