Pain Meds

Hi everyone.

My LAVH is March 3rd. I am wondering about the pain meds, do they automatically hook you up to a morhine pump, and give pain meds?
I literally can't take anything!. I am really sensetive to any kind of pain medication, except OTC.

Can you ask your dr about an epidural? Or that new On Q thing they do? That is where there is a catheter straight into the incision and you have a little pump attached. (My gram in law had it for knee surgery last november.)

I like Toradol in IV for pain.

Good luck on March 3!!! Hugs Raymo

Your pre-op appt is your chance to tell them what you are sensitive to. Don't leave anything out.

I found that perocets worked better for me than a demerol shot..I agree with the others that you need to mention this at your pre- op appt...Best of luck to you...

Pain Meds

Narcotics make me itch. Benadryl helped the itching, but zonked me big time. I've recently tried Ultram and didn't have the itching. It's Rx, but it's classed as a non-narcotic. I hope you find something that works for you.

Sending gentle s your way,
Beth

Thanks all!. Ultram doesn't "freak me out" like the others do, although the doc didn't know if it came in liquid form to put in my IV.....but I do have a perscription for it, can I bring that with me?

Patients are usually told to bring their list of medications - but leave the meds at home. The hospital will provide whatever is ordered for you.

Please keep us posted.

one thing I might add,
you can bring your own advil/ibuprofen. It is so much cheaper to use your own as they allow. (the hosp will charge like $3 a pill!) Hugs Raymo
