Mirena Need feedback pls!

I am at my last option before my doctor proceeds with a partial hysterectomy. I have been suffering terribly with extremely heavy periods and they have gotten to the point of me passing out from the blood loss. My specialist has said he wants to try me with the Mirena IUS before surgery. I have researched the product info but would really like some feed back (positive & negative) from those who use it, have used it or know someone that has. My appt is Feb 17th so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a link to a thread where the Mirena is discussed: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...ghlight=Mirena. You can also use the search tap at top, right of your screen to search for other threads about Mirena.

As with many other options, some ladies have had great success, and others have not. But any options available to you would be worth a try before having a hyst, which of course is a major, irreversible surgery. And a second medical opinion is also helpful.

Best wishes to you for your decision.

Mirena Need feedback pls!

Hi. I can give you positive and negative which i suppose is balanced!

My sister has had it fitted for 18 months and has only had one slight period since the initial blood loss. She has found it very useful particularly with all the severe PMT she used to suffer from including migraine headaches. She is very happy.

I had one fitted Easter 2004. It took a while to settle and then I had a wonderful 4 to 5 months when I thought it really was the answer to everything. Then the periods returned. They lasted for about 8 days but were very slight, but they were increasingly painful and I suffered really badly from PMT. At first they came every 6 weeks but they then became more frequent and painful. It was then that following discussion/exam with my gyn that she realised the endo had returned (I've had a three lots of laser treatment over the years) and we talked about a hyst.

I hope this is helpful. I have tried to be honest. I am maybe not typical. My gyn said it works for a lot of women. And certainly my sister is a real fan.

Best wishes for your appt.

Mirena Need feedback pls!

I had a Mirena coil fitted last Nov to deal with heavy periods and my Hysterectomy is having to be done for Precancerous changes they discovered during Hysteroscopy. My periods improved , much lighter if longer and do have slight pain but better than it had been prior to having coil put in.
Must be worth trying for a while before opting for the surgery. Listen to your Docs advice.

Mirena Need feedback pls!

Hi

My sister was taken off BCP due to migraines and given Mirena for her dysfunctional bleeding, as advised by both her neurologist and GYN. She had some nuisance spotting for the first few months but then things settled down and now she hardly even has a period. Only needs a pantyliner. So she's very happy with it.

I wish I would have known about Mirena back when my troubles started. I don't know when it even became available though. I'd never heard of it until my sister got it.

Good luck with your decisions.

Best wishes & s,
Beth
