Question for gals with a LAVH 3 or 4 wks ago

Hi,
I was wondering what the sisters who had a LAVH 3 or 4 weeks ago have been released to do so far. My doc has not been very conservative about what I can and cannot do and the info you give me would help tremendously!

Question for gals with a LAVH 3 or 4 wks ago

well, im at week 5 tomorrow but when i went for my 4 week check up he said still to take it easy still no lifting or vaccuming..Do what I wanted to other wise but when i get tired to be sure and rest...if i felt comfortable we could resume intercourse tomorrow BUT i dont think that will be happening..Im still bleeding and im thinking i still have stitches. Im calling the Dr today because i think one of my incisions has gotten infected and im going to mention the bleeding maybe i will need another silver nitrate treatment..
That was my Dr. opinion, you may want to call you Dr. and ask the specifics of what you cant/can do..Can you call the nurse and ask what is still prohibited..And if you have something in mind ask if you can do it or not?

Question for gals with a LAVH 3 or 4 wks ago

Thanks for your response Amber. The reason why I am asking others with the same surgery what they are allowed to do is because my doc told me at 1 week post op I could lift 20lbs but I couldn't sweep or vacuum yet. This doesn't make any sense to me. I have to lift , push and pull things all day at work and I'm at little apprehensive about going back just yet. I am afraid I might end up like some of the others that have posted with the same surgery who had docs tell them they could do too much too soon. Sometimes I don't realize I've done too much until later in the day or even the next day.
Are you having alot of bleeding? I don't blame you for putting off sex. Even if my doc clears me for this on Friday I will probably wait until 6 weeks to be on the safe side. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I'm quite a bit more thatn 3-4 weeks out, but my Dr. said nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks, no lifting over 20 lbs for 6 weeks, no sweeping either. I had a bladder sling done at the same time so I am still taking advantage of the no lifting 20 lbs or sweeping, but that was a different Dr.

Question for gals with a LAVH 3 or 4 wks ago

I am almost three weeks post-op LAVH. At my 1 week appointment my Dr. stressed no lifting over 10 lbs until 6 weeks post-op and absolutely nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks, no baths or swimming for 6 weeks and to rest if I get tired. I think my discharge papers said no sweeping or vacuuming for 2 weeks. I have done both at about 2 weeks and it really did not bother me but I think I should be more careful. I know the first two weeks when I was resting a lot I had absolutely no bleeding. I went back to work part time at two weeks and have been really busy since then and have started bleeding. Not much but enough to show I probably putting my body under more strain than I should. I rested up this weekend and am taking today off from work. YOu only get one chance to heal so we need to be careful. Do not overdo it and rather safe than sorry. I think it's better to be overly cautious. Take as much time off from work as you need and if you do a lot of pushing or pulling I think most docs. would say 6 weeks before you go back. I am an RN and used to work for a surgeon and I know he would not let a patient go back until then with that type of work. Best wishes for a safe and speedy recovery!

My doc said no lifting anything over 10 pounds for 3 months!! And even then afterwards, she said, you still have to be careful, because things can tear out easily ....

My doc said nothing in the vagina for 6 wks, no lifting anything over 10lbs for 6 wks, no vaccum, no broom and not to pull clothes out of the dryer for about 6 wks. Although she did let me go back to driving and work at 2 wks. I went back part-time (16-20 hrs) at 2 1/2wks.

Thanks so much ladies for your posts. I am definately going to wait 2 or 3 more weeks before I go back to work now. I don't know what I'd do without this website ! It has really helped me and my dh understand how important it is to be careful and the damage you can do to your body if you do too much too soon! I hope all of you all are having a good recovery so far and don't forget to "pamper the princess".

Velvet- sounds like you will make some great choices!!This site is great for most information..With the exception of calling the Dr if you are just unsure! It has helped me tremendously! All Dr's are different but that just seems a little extreme to be lifting all that weight!!Glad you got the information you needed to keep you safe!!
As for your question about bleeding..Its just enough to be a bother UGH. I am barely bleeding, i guess i shouldnt complain BUT i thought i would be done with that by now I guess if that is my only complaint i think im doing pretty good!I was going to aske the nurse about it yesterday when i was on the phone with her but my brain goes 'bye bye' when i talk to her HAHA..I guess if i am still bleeding in a couple of weeks i will call to see about it..Even then i guess its still normal if its the regular/expected amount?
Take care & have a Happy Valentine's Day!
Amber
