concerning lump

Hi all......have a strange question that I have not seen anyone post on here as of yet. I was sitting and resting yesterday when I felt almost a bruise like pain on the right side above the breast area almost even with my armpit. I pressed on it and felt a small hard lump. I spoke with my doctor office yesterday and totally forgot to mention it. So what I guess I was wondering is if anyone else has experienced this and if so what it was and what they did for it.

concerning lump

Hi Dena,

I have had a lump like the one you described before and it was a fiborous cyst. I was told to stop drinking so much coffee and it would go away. There is only one way to find out for sure what yours is - go to the doctor and get it tested. It will be a load off your mind once you do.

Any new lump should be checked out with your doctor! It is probably benign, but you must check it out.

concerning lump

Hi Dena Most often, palpable breast lumps are either fibroadenomas or benign cysts, but of course it is important to get any new lump checked out. Have you been having regular mammograms? It sounds like this might be a good idea for you at this time, just to be sure.

I see by your profile that you kept your ovaries, but it could be that their functioning is just slightly less than it was pre-hyst; if so, you could be slightly estrogen dominant now. Estrogen dominance can increase the frequency of cysts in women who have a tendency to get fibrocystic breasts; this is not cancer, or related to cancer, but it can make mammograms harder to read. Some DRs encourage the use of a little progesterone cream on the breasts to decrease the incidence of cysts in this situation -- ask yours. I read about it in Dr. Lee's book, "What Your Doctor Might Not Tell You About Breast Cancer", after I was diagnosed... and, with my DRs' approval, have been using progesterone cream on my breasts since then. I never had any lumps (not even with the cancer) but I did sometimes have some discomfort in my breasts... since using the progesterone cream it's no longer a problem.

Please call your DR's office and let him/her know. And let us know what you find out, OK?
s,
-Linda
