Webcast of Robotic Hysterectomy Today at 4 PM EST
Hello, Ladies:
I originally posted this several weeks ago, but some of you who are interested may have forgotten by now, so I thought I would post a reminder.
UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, will webcast a live da Vinci® robotic Radical Hysterectomy procedure for the treatment of cervical and/or endometrial cancer today from 4 to 5 PM EST.
The surgical team will answer e-mail questions submitted during this live educational surgery.
If you want more information about the program, or to view the webcast, go to: http://www.orlive.com/daVinci/1444
Warmest regards,
MoeKay

Hi Geraldine
as it's a webcast, you should be able to watch it on your PC if you click the link in MoeKay's post. Just adjust for the time difference...
except - that would be 11pm your time, wouldn't it? Kinda late...

Geraldine,
I believe, as Shegeek says, you should be able to watch the webcast on your computer from the U.K. If my memory serves me correctly there is a 5-hour time difference between EST and the UK, which would make it 9 PM your time.
Good luck!

I just watched most of it. Pretty interesting. I was surprised that I actually could see structures in there. I have seen tape of arthroscopic knee surgery and it was really hard to tell what was what.
They said they could actually visualize better than with open surgery due to the lack of bleeding and the magnification. Amazing technology.

I also found the procedure amazing. I had another commitment yesterday evening, so I was only able to see an hour and twenty minutes, but plan to pick up where I left off sometime soon.
I was wondering how widespread robotic gynecologic cancer surgery for cervical and endometrial cancer currently is. Also, I would be interested to know if there were situations where they would need to convert a robotic procedure to an open procedure. For example, in my case there were a number of surprises at surgery and I was curious if any types of surprises would render the robotic procedure too risky or otherwise not appropriate.
Although the hospitalization and recovery time were unbelievably short, I also wonder if many gynecologic oncologists might initially be reluctant to use this procedure until there is more of a "track record" showing that the survival rate was the same or greater with robotic surgery. I am very curious to see what my gyn-onc has to say about this and will make sure to ask him for his thoughts at my next appointment in July!
Best regards to all,
MoeKay
