Oestrogen Patches

Hello Sisters, It has been a LONG time since I visited the site but feel the need of some SENSIBLE people to talk to and know what I'm going through. It has been a whole year since my op and I have tried EVERY natural product on the market with little or no success, and now I'm at my wits end. I've gained around 2 stone (28lbs to my friends across the pond) my skin is dry and itches like mad, I'm tearful and sleep for short periods of time which is having a huge knock on effect on my day to day life. So I've reluctantly gone to see my GP who was really understanding and given me oestrogen patches to try (due to me suffering from migrain) I'm on 25mg dose and will try this. My sex drive is zero but I'm trying to put as much effort into it as possible as it means so much to me and my DH. Can anyone tell me if they are on these patches and have you had much success with them. I feel as if I'm cracking up and I'm trying to pretend that I'm ok only my DH knows what I'm going through and he's trying so hard to understand, but everyone has their limits.

Oestrogen Patches

Hi UKsam,

I had my surgery pretty close to you so I am at the same point as you. I have been on a patch since two weeks post op and I am doing fine. The patch I am on is a low dose estrogen. It is very convenient and I do like it but sometimes it doesn't want to stick and wrinkles and them doesn't work well. I have found only two spots that it does well on (my upper thighs) and I also have to clean the area with alcohol prior to putting it on. Also the adhesive can be a little irritating and it gets itchy undeneath but not too bad.Because the dose is so low I still have hot flashes and palpitaions and dryness but it is not too severe and I am pretty much used to it. On the whole I have had great success with it. I think you need to work on it to see the best for you and not get too impatient if it is not working at first. I hope this helps a bit, good luck.

Also I use a vaginal cream (premarin)for vaginal dryness which helps alot.

Oestrogen Patches

I am almost exactly a year out from my LAVH. I started on an estrogen patch (Climara) about 2 months after my surgery, and am doing well on it for the most part. I tried every over-the-counter product too, and they just didn't help. I am on the highest dosage patch (0.1). I am also dealing with a libido that is at zero; I just did some saliva testing that showed I am very low in testosterone, and I will try to fix that situation when I see my doctor.
