first didn't work but going back soon

First, I want to thank all of those who responded to my story. This site is such a blessing; I'm truly glad it was sent to me by a dear friend. My experience began with going in for what was so to be a very simple hysterectomy Feb 22. Everyone told me - don't worry, you're going to be fine. I had been having a lot of discomfort on the left side, but the doctor felt it was just a muscular pull (I had closed down an office and did most on my own, so his scenerio made sense.) I went into surgery glad that it would be over in a couple of hours, only to wake up and learn that there were complications...and the hysterectomy wasn't done (for my own safety). It was to be a scope and vaginal - easy. However and hour or so into the surgery, he found that the uterus was attached to the colon. If he would have continued, infection would have spread throughout me. Took me forever to wake up...and the disappointment was great...as well as now being scared of what was going on inside. I was referred to a colon specialist and in for the colonoscopy Monday morning. (Sunday night was certainly an experience, having to down 32 pills over a short period of time for 'cleansing'.) Thank goodness for the man I love. I think he has shown more concern and attentiveness now than ever before...and he's always been terrific...this time, it's just different...and totally loving. I'm so lucky in so many ways to have him in my life. The colonoscopy couldn't be completed...so after waking from it, I was off to have the barium. The two doctors have conferred and a new surgical date has been set for March 15 with both of them involved. I'm going back to work next week just to keep my mind busy...and then taking all of the hints I've learned from here and starting all over with preparation for the next go round. (Least my 'castle' bag is still packed!) I'll have my presurgical consultation next week and will probably learn more of what's yet to come. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. It so helps to take our minds off our own problems and realize that there are women everywhere going through and experiencing the same fears, concerns....hugs and laughter. I'll be reading more here now... just needed to write. Thanks for taking the time to read my story. Next chapter will follow soon.

Wow! :wowee: How nerve wrecking that must have been for you. Glad to hear you have a colon specialist working with you though. I really hope things turn out for you! My doctor did not even try to remove the endometriosis off my colon during my hysterectomy and now I am in pain again and feeling worse. Looks like I may be in the same boat myself in the future, having to find a specialist who is not afraid of dealing with the colon. Many to you for being so strong! I am scared to death of yet more surgery, but still uncertain of what is going on yet so I won't worry about that just yet for me. Going to see another gyn next week. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Thank you so much for your reply. My prayers are with you and for all that you've been through and are going through. My doctor feels that this stems back to a hysteroscopy that was done 2 years ago. My GYN now, who also did a hysteroscopy in January, asked where all the scar tissue came from, as he could only go maybe an inch inside of the uterus. Found a large fibroid, extensive thickening, tremendous scar tissue....and his final thought was that it seemed that the uterus had been perforated during the first attempt of finding the cause for my bleeding 2 years ago. We felt it would be an easy hysterectomy, but during the procedure with the scope, they found the hole and the attachment to the colon. It's a constant dull ache and pulling on my left side. I've always felt something was wrong...more serious than what he thought was a muscular pull. I think we, as women, know our own body and what just doesn't feel right. I look forward to the 15th, even for as scared as I am. I just want to start feeling better and for my husband and I to start our journey in life in what is supposed to be the happiest of our years. Please take good care - I'll keep you in my prayers..and I hope you'll do the same for me. Write now and then to let me know how things are going. pj
