A couple of fibroids, which explains the long time issue I've had with bleeding for half (or more) of the month. Also showed some calcifications in my uterus which my doc said was from old fibroids. One of my ovaries has a small cyst, but she said that it wasn't anything that would make her reccomend taking it out. She said everything looked great and that we are all ready for my TVH in 3 weeks!!
I asked about instructions regarding food before surgery, since my pre-op appt is less than 24 hours before my surgery. She said no special instructions other than no food or drink after midnight the night before surgery. I still think I'll take it pretty easy on the food selection the day before.....
And, although I am not scared now, I am facing the fact that as the date grows closer, my feelings may (and prob will) change. So, I asked my GYN if I could have a couple of sleeping pills to help me rest once my nerves kick in before my trip to the castle. She said "SURE!" and promptly wrote me a script for 20 Ambien's. So, for all of you who are nervous and having trouble sleeping - see if your doc will give you something to help!!
The idea of being intubated was/is a bit unsettling to me, so she reassured me that it would be put in after I am "out like a light" and will be taken back out before I wake up.
I'm also not crazy about the catheter. She said that she leaves instructions with the nursing staff to take catheters out after surgery "upon the patients' request at anytime beyond 6 hours post-op". She said there are a lot of women who would rather get up and make the trip to the bathroom than to leave the catheter in for the max of 24 hours after surgery, so as long as I feel up to getting up when nature calls, I can get it taken out pretty much as soon as my legs will carry me to the potty.
The office staff is going to take care of calling for pre-certification from my insurance company. I've found out that more of leave from work will be paid than what I thought. Instead of using the short term disability (has a 15 days waiting period before it starts, and then pays 60% of regular pay), I can use Supplemental Sick Pay, which, after my sick time that I have accrued is all used, the supplemental will pay 80% of my regular salary without a waiting period! Look into this, ladies!! If I hadn't gotten out my employee handbook and started doing some research, I'm not sure I would have found out that is was available!
Btw, does ANYONE have the same surgery date as me???? I haven't seen anyone yet, and I'm feeling quite alone!
(yes, I am being overly dramatic for effect....) And, does anyone else on here have a "my space" at myspace.com??? (not the MSN one) I would love to start a hysterectomy group on there, if anyone else is on. Let me know!!
for everyone!!!!
