Travelling by car???

Looking for some input....

I live in Ontario and my daughter and her team will be travelling to North Carolina next weekend for a showcase basketball tournament. She is hoping to play D1 basketball at college. Anyways, there is no team bus, each family is responsible for getting their daughter to the tournament. So my husband and son are going to share in the driving.

Currently, I have had no problems other than constipation or gas 7-10 days ago. I am walking up to 30 minutes continuously or 1 hour in the malls. I can sit for any period of time with no problems. Also, I have had no pain meds for 2 weeks.

Do you think it is a big risk to go with my daughter on this trip? It will take 11 hours driving time one way. We can take our time driving down and back, stopping as much as required.

If I do go, does anyone have any suggestions to make the trip as comfortable as possible. I would really like to support her and be with my family.

If I don't go, I will spend the long weekend at my parents (also a 2 hour drive away).

Travelling by car???

If it were me? OUCH no way.. I can't manage a trip around town without discomfort. It is not the sitting, because I can find a comfortable position. It is the shifting around contantly. Your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced in your seat. That is the part I have trouble with.

Travelling by car???

Hi Jacqueline

I think your first step should be to make sure your doctor is on-side with your trip.

If your doctor agrees, it sounds like you're on track with plans for frequent stops to stretch and rest. I liked to have a pad of some sort between my tummy and the seat belt. Keep stocked with lots of water and fruity or vegetable munchies.

Let us know what your doctor says, please.

Travelling by car???

Hi Jacqueline

Like Wendy said, check with your doctor. S/He may want to do an internal before sending you on your way.
If you get the 'okay' then make sure you have a pillow to sit on (helps with that balance thing) and lots of water and crunchy veggies for snacking.
A couple travel pillows (Zellers $3.77 each) for between you and the seatbelt and between your head and the window when you want to nap.

Take along a couple packs of disinfecting wipes...just in case you need to use a public potty along the way....and your own TP. No sense in picking up some nasty infection.

Stop and rest or stretch when you need to.

Have fun and good luck to your daughter!

Travelling by car???

Yeah! That Would Hurt! I Rode For Five Hours About 1 Week Ago, And My Doc Said That Since I Was Only Going Home From An Appt W/ Him, He Would Approve It. Lol! Anyway, It Hurt! I Really Paid For It The Next Day Too. If I Were You, I Would Have A Lovely Time At Home, With Peace And Quiet!
