MRI Yesterday

Permit me to blow off some steam please? I had an MRI yesterday because I have had right sided abdominal pain since the hysterectomy. The tech was taking my history and asked about surgery so I told her I had a hysterectomy in July. She asked if it was a total hyst and I told her that I had everything taken including the ovaries. When she asked the reason for the hyst I told her it was menorrhagia. She said, " I don't know why your Dr took your ovaries for menorrhagia, he should have left them in. Most Dr's don't take out your ovaries, I don't know why you let him." When medication patches were discussed i informed her I had HRT patch. She had the nerve to tell me I wouldn't have needed it if I had kept my ovaries.
I was so angry I couldn't see straight!!! I am a medical professional and I would NEVER have the nerve to be so insensitive. To make matters worse I was sitting at the far end of the table in the MRI room and I had forgotten to take out my small pearl stud earrings. I started to take one off to hand to my DH who was in the room with me and the tech literally pushed me from the back off the table and started screaming at me about the MRI being a magnet. I must admit I had forgotten but to physically push me off the table was the limit!!
Needless to say I have written a letter to the office about their employee and her lack of professionalism.
Have any of you had to deal with anyone like this?

You are right. The tech was out of line. I am sorry you had such a horrible experience.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can make judgements about your health issues without knowing the facts. The bottom line is these people are idiots and they are everywhere. I'm sorry that you had to be on the receiving end of one of these people, but try to ignore it and take some satifaction that these morons have to live with themselves. That is not to say that I felt some rage reading your post!

Hi Michelle,

Sorry you had to go through this womans rudeness and who gave her the right to make assumptions about your health and well being. So pleased your lodging a complaint about this very unprofessional woman. Maybe some other poor woman can be saved from this happening again. Feel free to vent!

Take care......Karen

Good grief! Did the tech forget their prozac? No, I never experienced anything like that. Although I once had this childhood dentist who was overly aggravated by my restless legs syndrome. I was too young to understand what he did was wrong. But that story doesnt quite compare. By all means write a letter. That tech has some issues going on there.

I think i would have went through the roof at this woman. I might have said something like, well maybe they should have left the bag on your head when you were born, but hey...that's my humble opinion
*giggle*

sorry for being so mean, but it really annoys me when people make assumptions about another's health issues. If you don't know... keep your yapper shut is my motto

Dear Candyapplelady,

Boy, it seems weird that when we are sent for these tests and are scared to death and desperate for answers, that these techs are all too willing to state that "they can not comment or they could lose their jobs." This particular tech seems like she takes the cake as far as I am concerned!!!For her to comment on your surgery and medications with her own opinion is just unprofessional. As far as the incident with the earrings, I had a similar situation happen recently when I attended a friend having an MRI for a hip problem. I was sitting in the room (for companionship) and was not told to remove my jewelry at any time. I was wearing my watch and almost asleep in the corner of the room when suddenly I awoke to the tech trying to rip my watch off my arm. I fell off the chair onto the floor and hit the tech. She told me about the magnet, etc.etc. I told her it might be in her best interest to "notify" people beforehand that they need to remove their jewelry and to NEVER attempt to remove anything off another's person. I was not nice either. I am sure she assumed I would put in a complaint against her for the stupidity of her actions, but I didn't. Just reading your post reminded me of that and I wanted to commend you for doing the right thing. Good luck.

Michelle, Wouldn't it be so WONDERFUL is we could just give the pain we feel all the time to medical staff jerks that think they know it all. It is so wrong of them to give their thoughts on what we choose to do with our bodies. Just let them feel the pain for one hour and i know they'd have something different to say. Sorry you had to deal with that.
