Changed my surgery at the last minute!

I got a call from my dr.'s office. My insurance had already approved my surgery, but apparently someone had mistakenly approved a LSH and they do not cover it at all. I am still on for tommorrow, but will probably be having an LAVH. I am dissapointed not to be keeping my cervix, the only female part that has not given me any trouble!

Has anyone had this happen to them? I picked up my mom and sister today, they flew cross country to be here and I do not want to delay to fight this. I am however tempted to have him to a SAH and a mini- tuck!!! I am supposed to show up at the castle at 10 am surgery at 12pm. I am so blown away by this develpment that I am not really nervous anymore!

Please think happy thoughts that my dr. won't get mad and cancel or something!

If it were me, I'd call the insurance company and make a final plea for my case. That's a huge mistake on their part to "mistakenly" approve a procedure. It seems to me they should swallow this one and you get the surgery that you thought you were going to have. Just my opinion. They may so no, but it might be worth a shot if you feel very strongly about it.

If it were me I'd be getting on the horn and calling someone. Raise a little cane and see if they will say it's okay. The person to call is really your dr's office. You'd be surprised how a yelling dr who is already setup for 1 kind of surgery can tell the insurance people to get a clue. And maybe that way you can get what you want. I realize that you are ready and the operations tomorrow. So it's really up to you. I'm just disappointed that you obviously want to keep a part of you and some pencil pusher is telling you no. Oh I am sorry if I'm being to forward. It just drives me nuts that you jumped alot of hoops to get to this point and they think
that they can just change their minds. I do know of someone who had a similar experience. And the dr got on the phone and told the insurance company tough. Because his patient was already "prepped for this type of surgery". See he told them they had done the blood work and bowel prep and typed her blood, blah blah blah. So he told them it was too late. And the insurance company paid. Yeah, they took their sweet time but they paid.

Really though, I wish you all the best and I'm sure you are just ready to go on and get this done. You do what makes you the happiest.
I wish you a great recovery!

Changed my surgery at the last minute!

Thanks for the pep talk ladies!

I called the insurance co. and the dr. and it just isn't going to happen. I am dissapointed, but I have military insurance and they are notorious for not allowing things that other companies don't blink an eylash on.

I am going to go ahead with the LAVH and am glad that it is still less invasive than a TAH, I am looking at the bright side now. I do feel good that I at least tried to see if I could change things.

Oh Betts! How unnerving! I'm so sorry this happened to you. Last minute changes are so hard to handle with big deal issues like this. Good luck tomorrow. I'm sure when it's all over, you'll be just fine. For sure you'll be happier than waiting any more to get it over with!

Take care!

So sorry to hear the insurance company won this round! Not fair! But, if you have made peace with the change and are truly ready to move forward, then great. Best of luck tomorrow!
