How to pick your own Hospital for surgery?

I will be going for my 2nd.opinion to a gyno who is affiliated with one Hospital in which he'd want me to have the hysterectomy but what if I want to go to another Hospital instead to have the surgery without switching gyno's? I checked w.my Ins. and they said I could go wherever I wanted to but how do I go about that? Annette.

Most surgeons have privileges only at certain hospitals of their choosing. In those cases, you would have to go to the hospital that the surgeon has chosen unless he/she has operating privileges at other hospitals as well.

My surgeon only practiced at one hospital in this area. He has been practicing for 25 years and has always been exclusive at this particular hospital. It turned out well though. Even though it wasn't my first choice, after my experience there I will always go back to this particular hospital if needed. The staff was WONDERFUL.

As with ML3500's post, my doc only has privileges at two hospitals in my area. Lucky for me, one of them was my first choice of facilities so I get to have my surgery there. Check with your doc to see where he has privileges and then go from there. Good luck!
