Ovarian Cyst Post Hyst
It's been a while since I've posted since I've been working so many hours. I'm nearly 3 months post-op and something "new" happened.
On Monday, I suddenly had this terrible, sharp pain in my abdomin. So bad, I cried and started to panic. This had happened twice before and my doctor's office said to come in when it's happening so they can better diagnosis it. I was able to get to my gyn an hour after it started. He examined me and felt a cyst on my ovary. It KILLED when he pushed on it! Then, the excrutiating pain started again right there on the exam table. I cried yet again. He sent me for an ultrasound and Novuring to try to stop me from ovulating to see if that will take care of the cysts. 3 hours later at home, the pain got so bad all I could do was squeak to call to my husband. I couldn't yell. He didn't come right away thinking I was playing with the cats. Then, he started to panic seeing me in such pain. Vicodin to the rescue but that's no way to live. Each time I got up that day, the pain would start again. A call in the afternoon confirmed that I had a tennis ball size cyst on my right ovary. An appt was made for me the next morning to see my gyn again. Laproscopy? Novuring? I was a nausia mess still dealing with some pain on Tues at my gyn's office. He really hoped I could avoid surgery but scheduled it for Friday just in case. Not wanting to undergo the knife so soon, I thought I'd give waiting it out a try.
That night, the pain was bad but different. It was constant and hurt terribly any time I moved rather than coming on like an explosion as the day before. Tears again. Wednesday, I had pain in my abs as though I had done 1,000 crunch ups. I was very sore and still had some of the sharp, constant pain but was able to be vertical for the first time in 2 days. Thursday, I stopped pain meds and was up all day. Still sharp pain and ab soreness but not as bad. I worked from home most of the day. I cancelled my surgery. Still pain when gas and bm's move through. Still bloated.
I'm VERY upset to be dealing with this after surgery. I never had pain during ovulation before my hyst. Hyst was due to adenomyosis that turned out to be fibroids. I've never been diagnosed with a large cyst. Never had pain that lasted like this, even leading up to my hyst. I'm confused because cysts weren't ever found before but this residual pain is the same I had during my periods. Is fibroid pain very similar to cyst pain?
I have to tell myself this is new and that my hyst was not a waste. It's extremely depressing to be going through all this again. I can't keep missing work because of this. I missed out on an interview for a job too. I'm afraid and tired of these continuous "crisis" moments. This time, it happened at work which was mortifying.
Has anyone else had ovarian cysts suddenly appear after a hyst? Has shutting down ovulation worked for anyone? Has anyone had laproscopy to remove a big cyst only to have another reappear?
Help?

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having problems now so many months after your surgery. Can you get a second opinion from another doctor?
That is what I would do. I hope you feel better soon.

One of the reasons for my hyst was ovarian cysts. I can feel your pain! The pain from my cysts used to drop me to my knees. The last one that I had was the size of a large grapefruit. I passed out from the pain at a photo studio with my 2 kids, and was rushed to the hospital. I finally said enough is enough... I was on the depo shot for 7 years to stop my ovulation and keep the cysts from coming back. It did work for the most part. I had fewer cysts occuring, but they just started to get worse again. I did have laproscopy surgery twice to clean out the adhesions left from the cysts and they still kept coming back.
I dont know anything about them coming after a hyst..I thought you didn't ovulate after having a hyst?
I am sorry to hear that this is happening to you now! I wish you luck, and hope that you feel better soon!

Ovarian Cyst Post Hyst
I am so sorry for your pain. It sounds like you had a pretty miserable week.
I have moved you over here to our Ovaries Only forum where there are other ladies who have dealt this ovary issues, such as cysts, post hyst, so hopefully they will drop by with some support and suggestions for you!
As I was on b/c for years before my hyst, I don't ever remember having problems with cysts. I was basically pain free in my pelvic region aside from lower back aches and some right sided achiness during that time of the month. Over the last several months though, I have had some issues with cysts which caused constant and mostly right sided pelvic pain. Because of being diagnosed with migraines, b/c is not an option for me now. But, b/c is a first line of treatment for cysts--it stops ovulation so you do not form a cyst each month. Has your dr suggested trying Depro shots or another type of med that does not contain estrogen?
My last cyst was a hemorrhagic cysts and was painful, but nothing like what you endured, nor was it quite that large. (5.4x5.9x5 cm on the CT scan) I do believe you need some relief for your situation. Do talk to your dr about your choices and additionally, you would probably benefit from at least a second opinion. You can also search the site for "ovarian cysts" and search through the our resource data base for "ovarian cysts" to find information that may be helpful to you.
in there and best wishes to you!

Ovarian Cyst Post Hyst
Cyclist42,
I just posted about this too. I had a TVH just over 2 years ago. Almost 2 weeks ago I was at work not feeling well, and then all of a sudden I went down, double over. I thought I was going to fade away right there! Somehow I drove myself home (probably stupid since I don't remember driving home it at all). I had intense pain, nausea/wretching, and didn't want to talk at all. This went on with the same intensity for Sun/Mon/Tues/Wed/ and most of Thursday. After that I slowly began to feel better (I at least could walk upright!). The following Sunday (which was one week after onset) I was able to function fairly normally. Last few days I've had back soreness, bloating, some nausea, and belly soreness. Occassionally some sharp pains in various areas.
I've never had a known cyst before this.....from searching the boards, it's not that uncommon around here!
I do not want to miss any more work either! Sorry you missed your interview.

I also had my first ovarian cyst ever following my hysterectomy on my only remaining ovary. After living with varying degrees of discomfort for 8 months I had it surgically removed along with the ovary. Like you, I could not understand WHY. I had never had a cyst before the hysterectomy. They kept telling me to wait and that it might resolve on its own. I finally said that "enough is enough". I lived on Motrin and Vicodin for 8 months and then threw in the towel. I also felt that it was totally unfair and that another surgery was the last thing I wanted. Best of luck to you.

I also have been diagnosised with an ovarian cyst...after months of wondering what was wrong I finally broke down and saw my family doctor who sent me for a cat scan and revealed a ovarian cyst...it's hard to believe that a cyst can cause so many problems...I go to see my gyne on Friday for my 6 month surgery follow up and I guess I will see what he says....I also don't need to miss more work...or need another surgery...anyone know how common this is....? thanks

Thank you all for your replies. Not that any of us want others to go through the painful times we have but it's VERY comforting to know I'm not alone. I've learned from your postings and others in this forum so I have a better understanding about cysts. Still need to learn more but it's a great start.
Thankfully, 8 days later, I'm now completely pain free. I started using Novaring on day 4 to stop ovulation which made me nausiated but it's getting better. I have a follow-up with my doctor on March 31 and will have another ultrasound to see what IT'S doing.
As others have said, it's frustrating to keep going back for surgeries. I'm hoping I can hold out long enough to get a better picture of what's going on before I go under the knife again. Maybe I'll get lucky and "the ring" will do the trick. Still too early to tell. In the meantime, I'm back at work but feeling a bit like a time bomb. I'm sure many of you can relate.
 for everything!

Not alone
I too developed my first ovarian cyst post hysterectomy. I was 5 weeks post op when mine flared up and brought me to my knees! I had so many illnesses during my recovery, this was even worse to deal with than the staph infection I developed in my incision! It is so scary to think that you have the hysterectomy to help you feel better only to develop large cysts? I am very depressed and worried about it now.. is this going to happen to me every month now when I ovulate? Should I ask the Dr to go ahead and take my ovaries now and get it over with? I suffered badly for 5 years before I could get adequate insurance and a go ahead for my operation, having to try various methods of b/c and pain meds and finally had to have an HTA a year ago which also failed to finally have the surgery done that I asked for 5 years ago? I don't want to wait anymore, I am ready to get rid of it all... Is that horrible for me to feel? I am so confused and frustrated at my body I don't know what to say or feel anymore. But, I do find it very comforting knowing that I am NOT the only woman experiencing these problems, for a bit there I just thought I was abnormal!

Ovarian Cyst Post Hyst
I am now ten months post-op. I had to have an ultrasound for sharp pelvic pain. The doctor diagnosed me with a large ovarian cyst, on the only one that I have left. I never heard of Novaring, to shrink a cyst. The right ovary that I had removed did have a solid cyst on it. I have had other cysts after having a c-section and the doctor started me on birth control, which in fact dissolved the cysts.
