sleeping on your back

Is it at all possible to sleep on your side again? Today is about 2 1/2 weeks post op for me, and I am having problems with still sleeping on my back, I wake up about 3-5 times a night trying to get comfy and then in the mornings I feel very stiff. Do anone know when or did they be able to sleep any other way besides on your back and still?

sleeping on your back

bussy,

I slept on my side since day 1. I put a flatter pillow down vertically, layed on it pulled the front part up to shield my belly, put a pillow near my back, and one for my head. I just make it as comfy as possible. I'm not a back sleeper, and that seemed to strech my abs more than just curling up on my side.

bussy,
i too was going to suggest to use a pillow and kind of try to wedge it under your side....you can use another pillow between your knees. if you do sleep on your back...put a pillow under the knees...it takes pressure off your lower back.

i'm 6 weeks post op...and i still use the pillow between my knees when i sleep on my side. i don't know...it just seems more comfortable. i hope this helps.

sleeping on your back

I was at almost 3 weeks before I could sleep on my side again. I had trouble with incision burning and stinging. My Dr said it would pass... It did. When I was able to get to my side, I used pillows in front and behind to help keep me from wobbling. I'm just over 4.5 weeks now, and I sleep on my side without pillow help.

I can sleep on my right side, but it's still too uncomfortable for my left side. The pillows are a great idea.

sleeping positions

I am 22 days since surgery, had TAH, so long vertical incision made moving very painful. Fortunately, I am mainly a back sleeper anyway, but I have missed lying on my side, too! When I have tried, it feels like more pulling and aching going on inside thatn I should allow, so I quit. I figured lying flat would be good for helping muscles and stiches adjust, but I desperately want to use my side too.

I didn't find that it pulled our hurt my incisons, but I did have a LAVH, which are smaller incisions than those from a person who had a TAH.. The pillows helped prevent stretching or pulling.

I also had a pillow between the knees, as I slept on my side and in the fetal position.

What is it with that right side. My left is still the best. I LOVE those squishy pillows. I use 2 they are the bolster type I put one behind my back and one tucked under my tummy they have really helped a lot.
Good Luck I hope you get to feeling better
HUGS Kim
