Is anyone here a Diabetic?

Are any of you ladies Diabetic? I am, but have been controlling it off meds. Started on medication but lost weight and I exercise. Lately feeling like crap I do not want to do my treadmill I am seeing my gyn tomorrow to get my pre op date & surgery date.
I take it that they check blood sugars in the hospital for you? Is that a totally stupid question?

Is anyone here a Diabetic?

Hi

All your bloods will be checked, particularly if you're diabetic, as surgery, trauma, lack of appetite ... the list is endless ... will affect your glucose levels, as you know.

Good luck and don't worry if it takes a while to regain control of your diabetes following surgery.

Is anyone here a Diabetic?

I am diabetic too, thats one reason I ditched my surgery on 1-20-05, I also have high blood pressure. I saw my Gyn Tues march 14, and he did the pap, pelvic, and rectum exams, and sent me for my ultrasounds Monday March 20 before he scedules me for a hyst again. My appt to see him again is March 28 for surgey date. Im once again sooo scared!, but I've decided to have faith and pray that everything goes well. Does anyone else have both diabetes and high blood pressure?

Peacshes, I have high blood pressure also. But when they found my Diabetes they put me on a blood pressure pill for Diabetics, my blood pressure is 113 over 70! Its never a problem now! My med for that is called Lisinopril. I would ask about it if I were you!
Peaches, let me know when you get your surgery date, I think you & I maybe in the hospital around the same time. I see my gyn tomorrow.

Is anyone here a Diabetic?

I am diabetic also. Stemmed from my PCOS which caused my surgery. They do check your blood sugars in the hospital. Or at least they did for me. I was eating only bland foods and it needed to be checked to make sure my sugars didn't get too low. I won't let them do it though. I'm weird about that. I check them at home also. I can't stand to have someone else prick my finger! My diabetes over the years has gotten a tad worse. I take oral and insulin meds. I also have high cholesterol. Thankfully they have discovered all this stems from PCOS so anyone in the near future who ends up with the same diseaste/syndrome can prevent it. They didn't know when I was diagnosed. Luckily for me my BP is great. I'm on like 2 mg. of Lisinopril for kidney function. It's another thing that needs to be closely watched with diabetes. Without the Lisinopril my BP is 120 over 80. On it it's even lower. I didn't need to take any of my meds. to the hospital since I only stayed over night and they said with the foods I was going to be eating they didn't want me taking anything but the one dose of insulin I take before bed. It was all good they are drs. and nurses and know all about this stuff so it will go smooth. Just mention it to the surgery staff before you go in (even if it's in your records) and they are usually good about telling the nurse that will be your nurse afterwards. Hope that helps. Good luck!!!

Is anyone here a Diabetic?

I'm diabetic, too. There's no such thing as a stupid question. My pre-op educator told me that she gets very concerned when a patient doesn't ask questions.

Yes, they tested my blood sugar. Yes, it took a while for my readings to get back to normal. Yes, I've had to adjust my diet a bit until I can get back to my regular exercise (I'm just over 4 weeks post-op). Yes, it was worth it. No, I have haven't had any trouble healing. Talk your concerns over with you gyno and your gp (or whoever usually helps you take care of your diabetes).

Queen of Disco, I do not know what PCOS is? I hope I don't appear to be rude to have to ask.
