what about sex and hormones with no ovaries????

Hi, everyone. I had TAH plus removel of ovaries and lymph nodes Feb 28. I am 55. I was already menopausal for over 2 years, using the Climara Pro patch. Now I am worried about how and when to start HRT again. I had a very active sex life before surgery and do not want to lose that. I had a strong libido before and I want to know if it will still be there when my 6-weeks limit on sex is lifted. I can not imagine that my body can function without hormones, and want to get all 3 (est, pro, test) back to normal levels asap.
This website is awesome and I look forward to hearing from my hyster sisters.

Hi soogie!

You'll definitely want to discuss hormone therapy with your doctor at your next appointment. I'm glad you found this site so you can ask your questions!

Usually in surgical menopause we start out using estrogen only and get balanced on it, then consider adding in progesterone and/or testosterone if there are residual symptoms. The process of balancing hormones can take time and a lot of patience. Some women are lucky and get the right hormone therapy on the first try, but others have to experiment with dosing and methods of delivery. So, trial and error can be the name of the game.

Articles #10 - 13 in this link to the Hormone Jungle Articles will give you a good idea of available estrogens. Decide which you are interested in trying and discuss those preferences with your doctor.

Good luck with this, and best wishes as you continue to heal!
