TVH Recovery time

I am scheduled for a TVH April 26. My doctor said recovery would be quick, 2 weeks, but with lifting restrictions longer. I am wondering what exactly is recovered in 2 weeks and what remains to be recovered in the following 4-6 weeks. It would seem that life is not expected to be back to normal in the 6-8 week range.

I have been scheduled to go to a conference for work (2 hr air travel, 3 days of sitting and listening) 2 weeks post-op. The Dr. says he will know at 1 week post-op if I am cleared to travel, then can make the decision. I am wondering if "OK to go" and FEELING like going are going to happen at the same time.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks

TVH Recovery time

I had a TVH 7 wks ago. I was told by my GYN that the recover time was the same 4-6 wks for all hysters. I was released to drive a two wks provided I was not taking any pain meds, which I hadn't since 3 days post op. I returned to my desk job at 4 wks part time (napped in the afternoons) and full time at 5 wks. I can tell you that sitting all day in this chair is difficult, achy back and hips. Fortunately I can get up and walk around as needed, but there is no place to lay down and rest my back and put my feet up till I get home in the evenings. I can honestly tell you that at 2wks I was not ready to go anywhere too much. My first trip out was DH taking me to my post op and shopping for an hour and lunch on the way home - I was worn out! When I returned to work I had to be able to drive the 30 mins each way. That was about as far as I could stand. It has gradually gotten better each day, but I do get very tired by the end of the day and I am not productive at home in the evenings yet. Monday was my 6wk check, and I was released to resume normal activities as tolerated with the warning not to do too much, if it hurts - STOP! We all heal differently, and have different reasons for having this surgery, but we all only have ONE CHANCE to heal properly. Best of luck to you.
