so many fears
I am going to be 39 in two weeks. I have had endometriosis for years that is unable to be removed with Laproscopy due to the vasculature. I have had the depo lupron shots and have never felt right emotionally since then. Currently, I am on Progestin for 10 plus years that cause a tremendous amount of depression, weight gain, etc. I have just started a period after about 4 yrs. when I had break through...this isn't breakthrough. I am ok with having a hysterectomy except for the fear of the post op stories of weight gain, dry skin, hot flashes, more depression, pain still there and most of all, my sex drive. My sex drive is fine now and I notice that sex is more comfortable and climatic when I can feel my cervix....what happens when that may have to be removed due to history of dysplasia. Will I loose my ability to enjoy sex after surgery?

so many fears
We all have fears going into surgery, it is very normal. I think the best thing to do, is not read post op right now....I didn't!. Also try to remember that you are an individual, the "road blocks" some face...are due to different circumstances, including the type of surgery, and many other factors. Also, try to remain positive, just because something could happen, doesn't mean it will. I decided about two weeks before surgery, to "cross the bridges....when I get there"....thus far no complications!. Still have my desire to have sex (but have to wait another month!). Hang in!

so many fears
Hi Wisingup,
I will be honest with you. I am one year post op and sex is not as exciting for me as it was pre-op. I have not given up hope yet, and am still "working on" the hormone adjustments. However, my sex life has improved. I no longer have the severe cramping and bleeding that would keep me from having sex before for 3 weeks out of every month. I wouldn't chose to go back to what I had - the pain was awful.
Now, have you spoken with your Dr about endometriosis AFTER hysterectomy? It is not necessarily a cure, unless every little bit of it is removed during surgery. It can continue to grow in the presence of estrogen. Many women here have found that they cannot take estrogen for many months after their surgeries to get the endo controlled.
You need to make sure you know all the facts before your surgery, and know what to expect. I read the other forums and made a list of all the symptoms I was having, and another list of the possible complications. I went into this surgery knowing that I may (and did) exchange one set of problems for another, but so far the trade has been worth it.
Continue to educate yourself so you can make the best decision for you.
 S,
Kay
