Reasons for Hyster.

I had my hysterectomy due to severe adhesions that occured after I had my tubaligation and had an infection on my left side following the procedure and it wasn't taken care of properly...not going to the same dr. obviously...I was in incredible pain the first day of my period...bedridden and taking Vicodin was what I was doing to deal with the situation that I had convinced myself was "normal" cramping...until a very wonderful woman told me that what I was experiencing was NOT normal and I had an exploritory laproscopic surgery which showed that my left ovary was totally encased in these adhesions and that they had attached to my uterus also....there was no way to alliviate the monthly pain without doing a hysterectomy...which I welcomed with open arms!!! A side note to add is that I suffered with this intense pain for 3 years...and it was pain that was immediate after my tubiligation...so if you know of anyone with this type of condition please tell them to get it checked thoroughly...Thank you all and take care...Becky

Hi. I had a TAH/BSO on April 11th for heavy bleading and severe cramping and contraction-like pain and to remove 8 & 7 cm cysts from ovaries and 4 mo. preg size fibroid in uterus and one outside of uterus on back wall. Doctor ended up removing everything in addition to repairing/removing several adhesions and scar tissue. I go tomorrow for my first internal. I'll be one day shy of 6 weeks. I'm still having pain - pulling kind of feeling just below my waistline and it's very sore in that area, too. I also get stinging pains where my ovaries used to be. I'm thoroughly exhausted. I wake up every one to two hours to urinate during the night! I haven't even been able to take a nice long walk yet - mostly because of the bathroom situation..have bowel problems, too!! I feel like Michelin has put a tire around my middle! I can't wait to feel like my old self again (well, before I started getting periods!!!!).

I had TVH/BSO and Bladder Repair.

Reason for hysterectomy was bleeding, painful period, severe uterine prolapsed, moderate cystocele, cyst on right ovary, cyst inside right tube, adhesions on right ovary, and uterine polyps. My doctor said that my cervix was very sensitive and bleed easily. I bled when I had exam and for one or two days after the exam. Walking and standing up were very hard and painful.
My gyn asked if I would keep my left ovary, but I opted to take it out at the same time.
I do still have my rectocele though. I don't understand why my doctor didn't repair it at the same time.

I had a subtotal abdominal hysterectomy on May 10/01 for excessive and frequent bleeding (every 10 - 14 days). I also had the left ovary removed due to large cysts that were increasing in size.

I am an other - Surgery 5/4/01 to remove a large dermoid cyst on one ovary, polyps found in an enlarged uterus and the right ovary had adhesions from when I had my tubes tied 9 years ago.

My Name is Kari and I was Diagnosed with Veracious veins on my uterus (Pelvic Congestion)at age 20. I went to three different OB's before I was diagnosed. When I told them that I have abdominal pain that is so bad that at times I can't breath & it drops me to my knees most the time I can't walk or function normally. they just looked at me weird and one even told me "it was all in my head ". There was a time there that I thought that to. after so long hearing that over and over again you began to think it yourself.

After a year of being Married I could not handle the pain any longer and decided to go see a new OB he was an older man. I told him about all my symptoms and what the other Doctors told me. he said well we need to look inside would that be ok. so, we scheduled a Laporoscipy and he found that I had veins on my Uterus that was the Size of a man's middle finger when they are to be the size of the tip on a ball point pen.

He said that there is nothing he can do with out doing a Hysterectomy I said that I still want to have kids and he said that is fine it just means I have to deal with the pain. and I did for 9 years. I had 4 wonderful children but each time I had kids the veins got worse and so did the pain.

My last Pregnancy was very hard and very painful the veins where very swollen and the growing uterus did not help. I had him 3 weeks early and all was great by the time I got back to what should be my regular periods I had stopped having them which made the veins get worse and more painful. I was flat in bed not able to move even needed assistants to walk.

My Husband was unemployed (still is) and I had to work so I took a lot of medicine to get through the days. I couldn't go another day and we scheduled a LAVH Hysterectomy for April 23rd 2001. two days after my last child 1st birthday.

I am doing really good now going on my 5th week post op. Not very many woman are familiar with Pelvic Congestion but that is what it is.

I hope that giving some of my story will help someone else that might have the same symptoms that I did and get help for Vercosities.

I checked other because I had Adnomyosis on my uterus. I had LAVH/DSO on May 1st. I had the adno for years, but it never really bothered me. I had to get vaginal ultrasounds every year, because my DD couldn't feel my ovary during my annual exam. This year, I started feeling crampy all the time, and started having painful intercourse. I still have a tender belly.. can't wait to feel myself again!

I clicked other, although I haven't had a hyst. yet. If I do decide to, it will be because of a sagging uterus, which is tugging on my right ovary, causing it to be unhappy and complain loudly. I also have heavy periods for two days a month, and with them lots of clots, big, small and organ sized!! I see my family doctor tomorrow to help me with my decision. Reading this board has really helped me, because it's not all doom and gloom. Of course there is post-op pain, but it seems not to be unbearable. I'll keep you posted on my decision.

My reason for my hyst on June 8th, 2001 (12 days and counting!) is severe prolapse, possible endo, bladder damage due to distention and the prolapse, and alot of we dont know. He is quite unsure of the DX but after talking to fellow hystersisters and my DD, we also suspect pelvic congestion disorder. Which could be caused by the prolapse...It is a never ending circle of things. All this and I am only 23! Oh well, I am just ready for all this to be over. The pain in never ending, yet the pain medication seems to run out all too often. I will quit complaining now. Thanks for listening.

Hi sisters...

I voted for fybroids as that was my main reason for having my TAH/BSO although I had suffered from the pain etc. from endo for years, when they got in there there was no sign (weird)
I had a thickening of the uterus and small cysts on my ovaries (wish I'd kept them) as the symptoms of menopause are dreadful.
Other factors were my uterus was retroverted (backwards) and had pushed up so far into the back of my abdomen it had squashed my bowel flat.
My periods lasted three weeks out of four and so my iron levels were low.
I still feel strange about undergoing the surgery - almost like my reasons were wrong and I was just being a whoose. ( I should have just toughed it out)
