Reasons for Hyster.
Hi sisters...
I voted for fibroids as that was my main reason for having my TAH/BSO although I had suffered from the pain etc. from endo for years, when they got in there there was no sign (weird)
I had a thickening of the uterus and small cysts on my ovaries (wish I'd kept them) as the symptoms of menopause are dreadful.
Other factors were my uterus was retroverted (backwards) and had pushed up so far into the back of my abdomen it had squashed my bowel flat.
My periods lasted three weeks out of four and so my iron levels were low.
I still feel strange about undergoing the surgery - almost like my reasons were wrong and I was just being a whoose. ( I should have just toughed it out)
Anyway love to all!!
Thanks for your continued support
Judi.

No offense but, come on, since when is it O.K. to go through your life miserable! Pain, fibroids, dysfunctional bleeding, any one of these would be reason enough to search out a concrete solution. No one should have to tough it out, you deserve optimal quality of life. Please don't let guilt and others convince you of anything else. You are a beautiful woman of God and you are entitled to lead a pain free, healthy life. If you believe otherwise, someone has sold you a bad lot of goods!

no way
why should we just tough it out??
I had a TAH/BSO on 24/04/01 because of endo, fibroids, ovarians cysts infact everything was stuck together my consultant told me he had never seen such a mess before and he has been practicing for 34 years.
You will feel better as time goes on, jsut stop and think if we had lived many years ago we may not had been around to enjoy a long and pain free life.
Modern medicence has a lot to answer for..
So keep smiling and you will eventually feel great and one day you will stop and think yeah it was worth it, i free 100% better.
Thats what i tell myself when i am having hot flushes, night sweats and insomina.
The only trouble is i want to get on a live life to its full, but we have to take it slowly for the moment at least.
Hope you feel better
Chrissie

why
Hello! I had my hysterectomy(may15,2001) because of cervical cancer. The doctor had found a microscopic size bit of it in my cervix after a leep procedure. Because of my age(46) and had my tubes tied anyways he said a full hysterectomy would be the best thing to get all the cancer out. Well the tests came back after the surgery and the cancer is gone, not a trace of it. I'm glad I had it done right away. Early treament is best for any cancer. Best of Luck to all in life after hysterectomy and thanks to all for your support!

Reasons for Hyster.
Hi, well I got the hysterectomy ultimately because of endometriosis, but really it's a combination of that, severe pelvic and lower back pain, heavy bleeding, tipped uterus that caused a zillion (seems like) infections, fatique, and just a plain ol miserable quality of life since I started menustrating at 13...hope this is it in the long run..whew!! I am tired of it all, and this recovery too, it's so long ya know? oh well..
....God bless ya's to all my sisters, could'nt have done all this without you! hugs to you, Annie

Reasons for Hyster.
After almost 30 years of never-missed monthly cramps, overflowing flow, drugs and hormones, laproscopy, endometrial ablation, and way too many doubting Thomas GYN's, I finally submitted to having a hysterectomy. It's only been five weeks so I'm just getting able to discriminate healing from residual hormonal symptoms--I am enthusiastic and looking forward to Calendar Independence! Kerri

Reasons for Hyster.
I selected other, had tah/bso due to complex cyst on ovary and fibroids. I had no idea I had either until dr was doing a routine pap. He asked how long it had been since I had a ultra sound, told him 17 years. My pap came back normal, but the ultra sound indicated I had a mass on my ovary and fibroids. Had no pain or abnormal bleeding as many of the other sisters have had.
5 weeks post op and feeling great...
Patty

Reasons for Hyster.
I am also an "other". Had been having heavier and longer periods for years, and had been having abnormal paps for a few years. About 1-1/2 yrs. ago, the periods got heavier and longer, so GP ordered an ultrasound. This only revealed 1 small fibroid tumor. She referred me to a GYN, who tried some medication (made things worse), and then did a D&C, which revealed a polyp, which he removed. It was a "wait for a few months and we'll see what happens". Next 2 periods were periods from hell, so we decided to go ahead with a LAVH/BSO. Well, when he inserted the laproscope, he saw that my uterus was much larger than anticipated, so he changed to the TAH/BSO procedure. The pathology report revealed fibroid, endometriosis, chronic endocervicities (not sure what that is), and severe adenomyosis, so I had many more problems than the ultrasound, D&C, and endometrial biopsy had reavealed. If I doubted my need for surgery beforehand, I didn't afterwards. Guess I've rattled on long enough. I just want to add that 8-1/2 months later, I can say I haven't felt so good in years!!
