Should I still exercise???

Hi - I have 4 weeks to go before surgery. Last few days the pains in my abdomen have been worse and I suddenly get to feel REALLY tired all of a sudden. I have been pushing myself to go to the gym still - last week I missed it, today I went but struggled - felt as if I had little energy and had to cut back on the weights and only managed 45 minutes rather than 1hr. I am worried about becoming unfit. After op I know I will not be able to exercise for some time. Now, I feel as if I should give in to what my body is telling me more, and not push it so hard. Please give any advise you can, as I am finding it hard to pull back.

My doctor said that as long as you are not in any sort of pain as a result, it is good for you to keep up the workouts pre-op. They are a great way to manage stress. I'd say if you are too tired after 45 minutes, stop. That's 45 more minutes that you won't be making up for months from now!

I should add though that I gave up the workouts several months ago. So if you don't feel up to it, trust your body signals.

Should I still exercise???

I know how you feel. I haven't been able to exercise 'normally' for over 7 months. I had severe blood loss and required a blood transfusion in Feb. I truly miss my stairclimber and weights, but I know once I have my hyst, I can slowly get back to it. In the meantime, I do light gardening and I also walk. I'm stubborn and don't like to listen to my body when it says' ok you've done enough' but my body always wins! Hang in there!

As a workout nut myself, I know how hard it can be to not have the energy to do a full workout. Try doing some other form of exercise...I had to give up the weights because if was complicating my prolapse. I feel better in my abdomen now so I just do more cardio instead. I have also changed to yoga at times. Yoga is great because it tones and relaxes and focuses you. Staying active before surgery is a good idea because it helps with your overall health and you want to be healthy as you go into surgery. Do listen to your body...do not push beyond what feels good for you!
