bad recovery room experience

I had a really bad recovery room experience that is haunting me. The man in the bed next to me died. They worked on him for what seemed like hours, I'm not sure. It is all a little foggy, but I remember enough to really give me nightmares about dying. Any suggestions on how to come out of this?

Bless your heart........ I can't imagine going through that...... I think you are doing right by talking about it and visiting with other women here. There's something about working through these difficult things in life by communicating that brings inner healing....... You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted.

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience, if you continue to have problems dealing with it you may need to talk to someone, such as a pastor or counseling .
Things like that can be tramatic. I am sending you lots of and sweet dreams. Carol

Oh (((Ford))) I'm so sorry you are going thru this. Most hospitals have a clergy or chaplain on call. I remember before my surgery getting a handout for one. And they are there to do all kinds of things from just waiting with you for test results to holding your hand before surgery. Please give your hospital a call and ask to speak to them. They are kind caring people who will totally understand how you feel and can help you thru this. The handout I got said you could talk to them over the phone or they would even come and visit you. I hope they can help.

All my Best Wishes to you,

That is really too bad. I'm so sorry you are having to do that. In my opinion, (professional as well as personal) you have experienced a major trauma in addition to the surgery. It might go away on it's own. It's not often we experience witnessing someone's death. It might not. It does help to talk about it. I think the more you tell the story, the easier it is for you to incorporate it. You need to find someone who can listen. Clergy, counselor, social worker, trauma specialist. You get the idea. That is a hard thing to witness especially in the recovery room. My recommendation is a professional. The hospital should have one available for you.
Again, sorry you have this to deal with. Good luck to you.

Sorry you had to go through that, that is terrible! (((((hug)))))
Unfortunately I have seen someone pass away in front of me and be worked on for a long time. I actually suffered post traumatic stress (he was my fiance) and required counselling for a year afterwards. You may consider talking to someone, a minister, a counsellor, even calling in to an anonymous toll-free hotline when you wake up in the middle of the night. people like to say that time heals all hurts, not true, working through things and moving past them is the best way.

I had a really bad experience in recovery also. The older lady next to me was screaming in pain and wanted her husband, and my docs couldn't find a pain med that worked, and I couldn't breath well. It seems like its imprinted in my brain. I had some disturbing dreams too, but they are starting to go away, and I really believe it was the anestesia and pain meds that caused the vivid dreaming.
Hope your feeling better soon, please take care of yourself and get a little better everyday.
