HELP! Post surgery ???'s

1) Just wondering if anyone here has been prescribed Ditropan or any other med for bladder spasms.

My dr told me that I might have bladder spasms during this healing time. I have and I've been taking Ditropan as prescribed. (3x/day) The thing is that I don't really feel like its helping. They gave me a B&O suppository while I was in the hospital and that seemed to help a lot more, but for some reason he won't prescribe it to me now. I constantly have a full feeling in my bladder like I have to go, but aside from when I really do have to, its just a little trickle. I'm wondering how long I should wait before I start to worry. I know that you all aren't dr's and that I really should be talking to him, and I will on my next visit, next week, but in the meantime... any thoughts or suggestions?

2) Also, the dr said I had a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen due to the infections (infected urine). What can I expect from this? Right now I'm still really sore and I get a bit of pain in my abdomen after walking or being up and active for a few hours.

3) Also, my incision is healing nicely (did I tell ya it was a hip to hip incision?) However, the incision has a really hard tissue around it in several places. Could this be scar tissue also?

4) I constantly get hot flashes and night sweats, but I still have my ovaries. Could this be due to all the medications, (antibiotics and painkillers) I've been taking? or all the stress I've been under with this? I still have my ovaries....

I know, I know, I'll ask the dr about all of this on the next visit, but I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions for me in the meantime.

Finally, thought you all might be interested in knowing that the dr who did the original hysterectomy, really screwed up. It appears he left a clamp on my ureter during surgery and then sealed me back up.

Thanks bunches!

Sasseevee

Sorry to hear that you are having these problems. I am also on Ditropan due to continual bladder spasms. So far, it doesn't really seem to be doing much other than giving me DRY mouth I was also on Detrol for awhile before the Ditropan but it didn't work either. I also had a bladder distention and bladder biopsy on April 5th, which I am STILL waiting for the results. The distention did seem to help a little with the pain, but the pain is not gone completely. I am also suffering with incontinence that just keeps getting worse and worse.

As for the hard tissue around your incision. I know I had some hardness around the incision at about 2 to 3 weeks post op and I had it checked and doc said that it was scar tissue forming but that it would soften up, and it did. I don't recall how long that took though.

As for the hotflashes, I am not really sure if all the meds could have anything to do with it or not. Could be that your ovaries are in "surgical shock" and just taking some time to wake. I think you would get more answers to that part of your question by posting that on the Hormone Jungle message board.

I wish you the very best in your continued recovery.

Wow, sounds like the scrub nurse wasn't doing her job in the OR counting how many clamps and sponges went in and came out, unbelieveable isn't it how much dr's can get away with......THANK GOD they went back in

I found that the B&O suppository was the best for relieving my bladder spasms after my distension but like you they would only give them to me in the hospital......apparently, since it's belladonna and opium they don't like to give it to you outside a monitered setting....which in my opinion is just crap since it never made me feel one way or another, just stopped the spasms.

I asked my GP for them and he didn't have a problem prescribing them but when I told him that my urologist said no, he said he had to go along with him......so I guess it depends on the dr and what you disclose (this is of course totally up to you I'm not giving advice here )

In the end I ended up taking the ditropin which worked well for stopping the spasms but wacked me out, I was dizzy and sleepy and walking into stuff, so thank god I didn't have to take it for long......I still have to take it if I screw up and eat or drink something that causes my bladder to freak, but usually one dose does it and all is well!!!

It's really early in your healing to judge the incision thing.......I would just not overdue it and see how it heals, my last incision looked like a farm accident for a full month and then one morning I woke up and it was flat and as pretty as can be (well as much as can be expected anyway ) so there is hope yet

Big hugs to you, and don't forget to pamper the princess
