Pain Meds? How Long?

Hey there sisters! I just had a question for you all. I was wondering how long it is OK to be on pain meds? I started out with Percocet (sp?) and then when that was to strong the doctor gave me a Rx for vicodin. I still feel like I need it in the afternoon and for sure before bed. I guess I just need input from other people's experiences, how far you are out from surgery and what you are taking. I hate asking for more meds, but I am almost out, and I think I do need more? HELP!

Pain Meds? How Long?

I only had a script fo r 30 Vicodin. My DR advised me to take two ibuprofen with one Vicodin. That really helped. It go so that after a couple of days I was extending the time between each dose. At first it was every 4 hrs, then 6 hrs then 8, etc. Then it got so I would just take the Ibuprofen. I did tuck a couple away just in case I over did it a day here and a day there. And of course I did and of course I did take them. I am 5 weeks out and I still am taking Ibuprofen in the evenings most nights.

Good Luck

Pain Meds? How Long?

There is a good chance it wont be refilled unless you had complications that need to be tended to and then you need more pain meds. Personally I wanted to get off them for the constipation. But when you need them you need them . It is usually the case to wean yourself off and move down to Ibuprophin and even heating pads. Heating pads really helped me , but everyone is different. I was on sscript pain meds three days in hospital and about 4days out. However, I had a TVH...other procedures require longer I am thinking. YUOu can always call youDR or her nurse. well wishes

Pain Meds? How Long?

I have only been taking the 800 mg. twice a day of the Ibuprofen since I left the hospital. However I didn't have as much surgery as you even though I did have a TAH. And actually I don't feel much different when I take the Ibuprofen so I'm wondering if I even need that. I am still sore after too much walking or after I have been sleeping I get up and feel it. I didn't want to take the harder meds. because I didn't want the poop problems. I say ask your doc but try some heavy duty Ibuprofen. I think the sooner you can get off the narcotics the better.

Hi there, I had all removed on 3/6/06 and I am still on vicodin. I think it just depends on the woman and thier pain. good luck on your pain management.
