Emergency 2nd surgery

I haven't been able to write in awhile so here goes my saga...2 1/2 weeks in to my recovery from hysterectomy I knew I had a bleen right after and that I had a fair size blood clot to absorb as I had to have 2 unit's of blood after but at the 2 1/2 weekend mark I started with a fever ,bleeding, severe pain and throwing up everything and sweating like crazy, monday my very worried DH called my gyno who said to bring me in, it's a 90 mile drive so he loaded me in the back seat, my doctor examined me and readmitted me to hospital, was so dehydrated they could only half way insert an IV. Dr. ordered CT of tummy with rectal contast (tons of fun) but did locate my 10 x 10 cm size blood clot, after giving my antibiotics, pain meds he waited 2 days to see if I might still absorb the clot on my own but I only got worse so I had to have 2nd surgery to remove most of the clot, the good news he did tummy tuck but this time I had a drain tube. I can tell you I was so sick and so scared of what I knew I would have to feel again that it was such a blessing that I really started feeling better right away, it seems that the blood started breaking down and absessing instead of absorbing so after a total of 5 more days in the hospital I got to go home. I really have to thank all the nursing staff I had they really understood what I had experienced and took such good care of me. I also knew from all I learned on these pages what I needed to do (walking rightaway, gas X, eating meals, etc) to aid in my second recovery, I must say I am much weaker this time I am taking extra care but I am on the road of recovery.
It's been two weeks now and I still have a bit of a clot to absorb so I am still in a bit of pain but nothing like before and I do feel much better.
I hate to be the bearer of such a story but I don't think I could of withstood it all if I hadn't had all the information hyster sisters had provided to me and my DH. I hope all the ladies I had surgery with only had sucessful recoveries and are back to normal now.
I am grateful to be here and know it's only going to get better and better. God Bless and thank you for all the support.

Emergency 2nd surgery

stargazrme,

I am so sorry to read about what happened to you.... I was very saddened by my second surgery and went home from it really tired as well. The good news is that you will start recovering better now because you are not fighting as much infection and already your pain is better as was mine....
Rest, rest, rest!!!!
Feel better soon.

Emergency 2nd surgery

I, too, had a second surgery after hyster -- "correctomy," as my husband called it. Mine was two months after hyster. The most important point I could share about it was that the recovery was more than doubly hard -- so much sugery in such a short while -- and that you (and your loved ones!) must be patient with you and give you extra time to heal.

Now it's 2 1/2 months since the second surgery and I am beginning to get back to normal.

Good luck with your recovery and may you soon be pain and aggravation free!!

Emergency 2nd surgery

Hello I had a abdominal hyst on March the 1st. 4 days later I developed a fever of almost 103,went to er did several exrays bloodwork sent me home on leviquin antibiotic. The next day I continued to be very sick and started bleeding severly!!! I got a mirror and looked down below and could see a string almost hangingout. I pulled on the string and this very large amount of packing came out!!!! I called the ob doc they said to come over the next morning. I did and I never seen the Doc that did the surgery. This Doc looked and said all the stitchs were in tact. Ordered labs and said I was having the severe pain because of the packing being left in!!! That night the same thing happend I kept bleedind severly. Went back the next day and seen the Doc that did the surgery she said she did not put any packing in she don't know what came out of me. She said I was dry but she culterized me which is suppose to stop the bleeding. Went home that day and the same thing kept happening bleeding horribly. That was the 4th day and obviously nobody was going to help me. So a friend of mine is a nurse at another hospital and she found a Doc to take a look at me when he examined me I had a pulse rate of 120, fever 102.8 he was pulling out more of the packing , He couldnt beleive they said I was dry I was bleeding so bad then and full of infection. He said I had toxic shock syndrome from the packing beong left in. He ordered a cat scan of my abdomen and vagina I had a hematoma in both and admitted me to the hospital. They had to end up doing a second surgery the stupid Doc that did the first one left a hole in the cuff the size of a dime he had to put some stitches in and I had a big abcess, which he thinks was causing alot of the pain. So it has been since March the 10th I had the second surgery and I am just now feeling half decsent. I have had to take percocets for the pain it has been a nightmare. I just wonder if I am ever going to be normal again.
