red lump on incision

I had an LAVH so I have the little incisions in my pubic area. They were healing really nicely. The right side one had the tiniest little red spot, but was fine.

I had the stiches removed last wednesday and no problems until yesterday. I kept feeling really itchy and sore down there and thought it was the hairs growing back in. Then when I took a shower I noticed that I had a red lump on the incision. It is not huge, but definately look different than the other side. It feels warm to the touch and is driving me nuts. I have been putting neosporin on it and wonder if there is anything else I can do.

I am thinkin a possible ingrown hair?
Thanks, the ever curious, Betts

red lump on incision

Betts, you're a few days ahead of me, and I didn't have any stitches, but I woke up Friday with a wound infection in my lap incision. I headed to the doctor, who put my on oral antibiotic and told me NOT to put anything on it (neosporin, etc.). I think you should call the doctor.

Having said that, I have to add that a previous surgery gave me a reaction exactly like yours. It was partly that the incision wasn't quite closed, and partly because of an ingrown hair. It took several months for that to resolve itself. Call the doctor; if its an infection, neosporin isn't going to be enough.

red lump on incision

Thanks Nighauel, I guess I shouldn't have done the neosporin without checking, but figured since it was not open and oozing it couldn't hurt. I am just desperate for the iching. I can't even gently rub it, cause it hurts too bad.

I am really wimpy about this kind of stuff. I have popped out babies with no painkillers, drove around doubled over with pelvic pain for months, but stub my toe or get paper cuts, ingrown nails or hair...waaaaaahhhhh!

Thanks Sonie!
This is nothing compared to what you have been through!!

I didn't call because some of my kids got sick, and then yesterday we had a terrible Leukemia scare with our 4 year-old. She is urinating blood and had a bad bloody nose earl yesterday morning. The tests came back good, and now we are waiting to find out what is going on.

In the afternoon my incisiond started getting pus coming out, so I figured I better call. They told me it sounded like a stich that didn't dissolve, to clean it with peroxide really well and get in the shower and let the warm water work it out. I did that, didn't see anything come out, but it looks better today. I did see that the incision had busted open and that is were the pus was coming from. There is a scab on there today. I am going to keep an eye on it and hopefully it will get all better. It still looks very different from my others.

Thanks for caring!!
Betts
