Almost 4 wks postop/doing too much???

My 3 or 4 days in hosp. turned into 6 with TAH, BSO, BTB, appendectomy and too many other things to mention. Surgery and day after were breeze with epidural. Then came rx reaction, followed by severe bladder spasm. I have never had so many drugs in my system at one time. Blood pressure bottomed out/had to be put on oxygen, etc., etc. But my incision is perfectly normal...no redness ever. Went over my old c-section scar and had mini tummy lift..ha. I found myself trying really hard to take it easy for first couple of weeks. but Hoover was calling my name and now I vacuum, have been raking leaves and few other things. I'm careful how I move, what I lift, but maybe overdoing it....some seem to think so. But as long as I feel okay, isn't it okay? Or is it true I could be causing damage on the inside? Wouldn't I feel it? I am still sore and belly is swollen and tingly and tender to touch. I am sure I am not the only one who overdoes just because we are not made to lay up and do nothing. We are busy beings...suggestions would be helpful. Good luck to all preops....it really isn't as bad as we think it is going to be once it is overwith. But during it can be overwhelming.

Hi debcog57
I'm glad you are doing so well, especially after the complications you had after surgery. I am concerned that you could be hurting yourself.
You're right about the internal damage that can be done if you do things too soon and your aren't healed sufficiently. There's an article on doing Doing Too Much Too Soon that explains it in more detail. I hope you will consider taking it a little more easy. You can do a lot, but the really physical stuff could have consequences down the line for you. Take care of yourself. You only have one chance to heal.

well the vacuuming and raking leaves are a big no no, you could be causing adhesions and you really don't want to do that. adhesions can be a bad thing, i had severe adhesions that formed there own blood supply and were connected to my bowell and bladder, i would call your dr and make sure that you have the clear to do those things. i understand how hard it is to just let the house and yard go to crap, but you really should be taking it easy. Please slow down i would hate for anything bad to happen to you, you are worth more then that. good luck and big gentle hugs to you.

Thanks for the advice. I know you are right. That was already one of my problems....massive adhesions from c-section in '89. I will heed this advice and stop overdoing as hard as it is. God bless each of you.
