Post-chemo question

Hi girls,

Tonight, while at dinner, out of the blue my head got all dizzy and spin-y, like I had a really strong drink or something (sadly, I hadnt'). Felt like someone slipped me a Mickey.

It was weird. It's been 19 months since my last chemo treatment, carbo/taxol. I'm wondering if it had anything to do with chemo (I blame everything on chemo). Anyone else have this problem?(and of course I had a thought "OMG I have a brain tumor")

Thanks, for any input regarding similiar situations.

Did this happen when you stood up after sitting for awhile? That can happen to me if I suddenly get very active, after sitting for awhile. It seems to only happen in the evening. I have no idea what it is, but blaming it on chemo sounds good to me!

Hugs,
Janie

s K9

I doubt it was related to chemo at all.
Perhaps just a brief moment of vertigo.
Can happen to anyone.
If it should happen again, see your family doctor.

K9, Don't know why this happens but I get it quite often. It happened to me a couple of weeks ago whilst driving with my young son in the car. I felt as though I was floating and my head was "swimming" - really scarey. I've never asked the dr about it, it's just something i've lived with. It only lasts for a few seconds and then passes.

I hope you're feeling OK now.

Post-chemo question

Dear K9

A couple of suggestions from me... my last chemo was in May of 2005, and for the last 6 months or so, my red blood counts have been very low, not really sure why. But, one of the symptoms of low blood counts is dizziness. So I would suggest if you keep having these dizzy spells, perhaps you should get your blood levels checked.

Another thing is that here (in Denmark) there has been something going around (a kind of flu? or something!) where you just get bouts of dizziness every once in a while, and it lasts for a few days. My husband had it last week, as did I. I am one of those people who just naturally throw up when I feel dizzy, so was doing that for a couple of days! But we are over it now, although as I said, it's definitely going around.

Let's hope it was just an isolated incident... I HATE feeling dizzy! Take good care,

love, Janet J

Post-chemo question

Hi girls,
Thanks for your responses.

Nope, it didn't happen after I stood up..it happened right in the middle of eating my fajita. I thought maybe there was something in the food....msg? something...that did that. Did I drink too much seltzer? (doesnt' carbon something or other make the bubbles?)

And...not that things couldn't have changed, but i Just had a full blood panel in February and all my counts are perfect, so at least at that time I didnt' have low red counts.
I haven't given up on the long-term effects of chemo theory.

Whatever....it was just odd and got me very very curious. If it continues to happen I will definetely call my doctor.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Hi K9,
How are your ears feeling???
I am prone to getting fluid in my ears which can cause that dizzy light headed feeling. It can come on quite suddenly for no reason at all. I always use ear plugs in the shower.
My other thought is how is your blood pressure? A sudden shift can also cause dizziness.
Or you could be getting an ear infection.
I really doubt that it was chemo related.

K9,
We call that a case of the "vapors" down here in the south. We southern ladies take huge advantage of this situation. Next time this happens, grab a hanky, press it gently to your forehead and clutch the pearls that you (should be) wearing with the other hand. Slump (with as much poise and dignity that you can muster) in your chair while murmering "Oh dear me", "Oh my oh my" or something of that nature. At this time, if proper technique is used; all the big, strong, good-looking & well manered gentlemen within a fifty foot radius should be rushing to your side offering cool drinks, flowers or a trip to the nearest chaise lounge while leaning on a big muscular arm. It would than be acceptable for them to pay for your dinner and tell you how fabulous you look despite the little spell.

Or, you can just tell your doctor

Feel better,
Beachball

Beachball, you've given K9 some "great" advice here. I'm just sorry I never thought about it myself..... oh, those golden opportunities i've let slip through my fingers

Beachball,
I love it! Great idea! But do you know what the vapors really were? Why ladies with the vapors needed to stay in their rooms? It's not pretty, and it stinks!
