Premerin or Estrace?

Hi Marlene,
I have tried both premarin and Estrace. I am on the Estrace 2mg at bedtime. The premarin is a synthetic hormone, they get it from the urine of a prgnant mare . The estrace is bio-identical (same as your ovaries make) and are derived from soy. Personally I like the estrace. I had headaches and crying bouts , depression and could never get any while I was on premarin. But since I have been taking the estrace I am no longer having those problems. Plus just the thought of where they get the premarin from kinda made me ill everytime I took one of the pills! Hope that helps!

Love and cyberhugs to all
God bless!

Premerin or Estrace?

I tried premarin very briefly and switched to estrace. Mainly because I was interested in a bioidentical estrogen. Read through a lot of threads here. Sisters have luck with both and many do well on premarin - But estrace does seem to be the estrogen of choic.

Premerin or Estrace?

You may try doing a search on Estrace and Premarin. It's a very much discussed subject.

Some of the women are on the bio-identical estrogens made by a compounding pharmacist. This formula typically consists of three estrogens called estradiol, estrone, and estriol. It's formulated to be in the amounts our bodies produce (or at least an attempt). Because these hormones are identical to the hormones in our bodies, women usually do better on them.

I have recently read where some doctors think that women will do better if they are on all three estrogens instead of just one (Estrace). I'm not sure why since estradiol should convert to estrone and estriol in the body. But maybe estradiol doesn't always do that and maybe we do need the other hormones to feel better. It's something to think about.

In my opinion, to achieve balance you will need to replace progesterone and testosterone, which are hot topics on the hormone jungle as well. Some women do fine by just replacing one hormone but I would think our bodies would want all of them.

Premerin or Estrace?

I tried premarin for a few months and noticed a nervous tension and headaches from it, I personally did not like it at all. The Estrace pill I have taken for three years. At first I was given 1mg 1 time a day and was getting menopausal symptoms that returned. I then was told to try 2 mg 1 time a day and that was a lot better as far as sleep at night and no hot flashes, so I stuck with that for about a year. I noticed though I was still having high's and low's so finally this year I switched to splitting the dose between am and pm and what a diffrence that makes. I did well on this but had noticed by mid day a mild headache at times and I would start to feel a little anxious. I since have found I am burning up the estrace pill in 6 hours. Estrace for most women last 8-12 hours but I am 37, so I guess I am burning it up too quick and the rise and falls are more noticable to me. I am now going to try the vivelle dot that the alot of women prefer since it gives a more stable amount of estrogen delivery and it bypasses the liver so you do not need as high of a dose. The good news is the patch is still a bioidentical choice. The vivelle dot you change 2 times a week and it suppose to stick on better than the climara.

Premerin or Estrace?

Hi Marlene
I tried premarin after my op, but did not like the idea of the connection with horses urine
i now have Estraderm patches, which dosage has recently been increased, because of return of symptoms i had last year, mainly :
feeling much better now.
I think it's a case of trail and error to find the right type and dosage.
I would be interested to hear about other supplements taken by members of the hystersisters

lots of love
