My blood count went down in the three days after surgery, so I had a CAT scan to see what the problem was. Seems that I have a hematoma but nothing more serious. Any of you have this problem? My blood count was down to 7.1 and then went back up to 8.4. I did have a hard time in recovery with vomiting. I'll talk with the dr. when I go in next week. Any good ideas about food to get my blood count up?
I'm sorry you are struggling with your blood count. I came out of surgery with about a 7 too. It is no fun to feel that drained.
I found that with taking an iron supplement and eating the right things mine came back up pretty quickly.
I loved to eat spinach salads. I also found that Total Cereal has a lot of iron and good fiber too. If you like steak that is a yummy way to get it. Another really good tip is to cook things in a cast iron skillet. Anything you cook in one will pick up iron that will be a boost to your system.
Drink lots of water as it will also help build back your blood supply. I hope you will be feeling better soon. Keep us posted.
I don't have a low blood count, but I do have a small hematoma (from a nearby hernia surgery. It took 6 weeks to reduce after the hernia surgery, and a week later, after the hysterectomy, it filled right back up again. Now, at 3 weeks, it's going back down). My surgeon has told me not to worry about the hematoma, because 90% of them go away on their own. He has me using hot wet compresses on it (since the incision it's near has already completely healed--otherwise, compresses would be a bad idea), watching for possible infection, wearing a light girdle to keep it from hurting when I walk, and avoiding ibuprofin which can increase bruising. Your doctor will probably have his or her own guidelines, of course, so do what he or she says, not what my surgeon says!.
my iron was low going into surgery so after they put me on iron tablets still feel a little week they took blood again on thursday thats one of the things they will be checking good luck with a speedy recovery
