Muscle question

Sorry, I'm new, and I have a lot of questions.

I was reading about the different types of hysterectomys, and I know that I have to have an abdominal one. Do they always just spread the muscles apart, or do they sometimes have to cut through them?
Thanks,
Loriann

Muscle question

I am not absolutely sure but I thought they had to cut through the muscles like they do when you have a cesarian section. If I am wrong anyone please feel free to answer this one. I am having the SAH/BSO in early May so I will be interested in knowing that myself.

Muscle question

My surgeon said he pulled the muscles apart. I don't know if they cut them anymore. I assumed they did but he told me he didn't.

Muscle question

I read on the description of each hyst type that they pull them apart. At least I think that's where I read it. I've been doing so much reading lately, I could be wrong about the location of the info! I didn't have my muscles cut during my c-section either. HTH....

Muscle question

My understanding was that, for a vertical incision, they spread them apart to reach the uterus, but then they have to sew the muscles back together (to hold them closed and prevent in incisional hernia, I guess) even though they didn't cut them.

For a horizontal incision, this doesn't seem possible; it seems they'd have to cut them, but maybe I'm not imagining the muscles correctly.

Muscle question

They cut thru the skin, then spread the muscles apart to get to the uterus. That's how my c-section worked anyway...my doc said he wasn't going to cut my muscle, and he's going thru my section scar...horizontal..

Muscle question

My DR said he will do a bikini cut in the skin, but will not cut any abdominal muscles.

Muscle question

I had a bikini cut and afterward when I asked the dr, he said he had to pull the muscles to get to all the parts to be removed. It will feel like pulled muscles all across from below the belly button down to the incision. That is why we get good drugs! It does go away after a couple weeks.
