Frozen sections

Hello,

If the Dr. tells you before hand that they will be doing frozen sections of your ovaries does that mean they are suspicios for ovarian cancer? I know they are a bit concerned about a 1cm cyst that is 5cm now, but should I prepare myself for bad news?
Thanks,
Loriann

Frozen sections

I think it just means they are doing their job, being suspicious of and investigating everything. My doctors all told me that the more testing they do before the surgery the better (as they will be better prepared for what they might find) and that, really, they won't know what they will find until they operate.

Is a gyn oncologist performing your surgery?

Frozen sections

My gyn oncologist told me he did not think I had cancer, but was planning the frozen section so they would know right away. If I hadn't had cancer, then he would have left everything except the ovary with the tumor. Alas, that was not to be.

In your case, ask what your doctor thinks he/she might find. Have you had a CA-125 test done? It's not a perfect test, but it can give your and your doctor a little more information before surgery.

Best of luck to you.

Frozen sections

Dear Loriann97:

My Gyn Oncologist told me he would take frozen sections during my surgery. When I asked him what that meant he said the pathologist will examine the ovaries and tissue samples while I am on the operating table so he will know what steps to take next. It's a good thing. Please make sure your surgery is done by a Gyn Oncologist.

Love and Prayers,
Donna
