abnormal pap/2 yrs after hysterectomy
Hello. I had a complete hysterectomy just over 2 years ago. I recently went in for my yearly checkup. The pap came back abnormal so I had to go back in and have another pap and a HPV test. I then got a call that the test was again abnormal. I now have to go in and have a Colposcopy. I wasn't to concerned until I found out I had to have the Colposcopy. I just figured that I had everything taken out...including my cervix...when I had the Hysterectomy done...so didn't think I had much to worry about. I have to wait 3 weeks before I can even get in to have the Colposcopy done. I don't know if my nerves can take it. Can anyone offer any information or advise or direct me in the right direction where I can get more information?????
Thank you!

Hello Brooklynn,Sorry to hear of your trouble.Sometime's abnormal area's will show up on the vaginal wall's.If you have HPV it can flare up now and then.I know three week's seem's like a long time to wait. Why don't you give your doctor a call and ask to be put on the cancellation list? You might get in sooner,or they may even be able to work you in.I know there will be more sister's along to help soon!Take care.

Thank you for the support. I appreciate it.
You stated " if you have HPV it can flare up now and then"...this may sound silly...but I do not even know what HPV is...if I have it or had it...I did not ever know. I have never had a bad pap in the past.

abnormal pap/2 yrs after hysterectomy
Hey,HPV is the human papilloma virus,it's very common and most people do not even know that they have it.Just about all case's of cervical dysplasia are caused by it,and left untreated it can lead to cervical cancer. Some women clear the virus from there bodie's with no problem's,some do not. There are over seventy different strain's,and some are more virulent than other's.Your doctor can explain the in's and out's of it,but it can be very confusing and upsetting at time's.Since your doctor did a HPV test,I'm sure you will get some answer's soon. Also, you may have been exposed to the virus since your hyst,or the pap may not mean anything is wrong at all!Lot's of different thing's can cause a pap to be abnormal.I wish you the best.

abnormal pap/2 yrs after hysterectomy
Hi Brooklyn,
I am in the same boat as you. I had a hysterectomy
1 1/2 years ago but I kept my cervix because I never had an abnormal pap. Then, wham, the dr. saw something on my cervix and I was lucky enough to have the Colpo right then. The pap smear test results came back negative (a false negative) but I had mild dysplasia. I, too, have/had HPV and never knew it. So, I had a LEEP procedure done and I will return for another pap smear in July.
I was freaking out too but after the LEEP I was much better. I "googled" Colposcopy, mild dysplasia too (I think) and I went to the American Cancer Society website.
Good Luck and keep us posted. Email me if you like.

abnormal pap/2 yrs after hysterectomy
This sounds like I am reading about myself. I had a TAH (uterine cancer). Just this morning I found out that my last pap test came back abnormal (answer machine). I could not call into the office my loving husband did. I am scared out of my wits, waiting for my gyn to call and talk to me. Secretary said I was scheduled for another test next week, not even sure what test. I would appreciate hearing from others with this situation. I pray this is nothing. My prayers with all!
Thank you!
Janet

Abnormal pap
Waiting is the most agonizing. I recently had a situation where 18 months after completion of radiation my gyn/onc saw something suspicious in my vagina during a routine followup. Of course he biopsed it. It took a week to get the results - at which time I was going crazy! Fortunately, the results were negative. I agree with "spiritmaiden" re calling your Dr. to see if he can take you in earlier. Having to wait 3 weeks is cruel and unusual punishment. Good luck. anna

abnormal pap/2 yrs after hysterectomy
Hi all,
I had a colposcopy done in May. When the doctor took the biopsy he actually went through the vaginal cuff, I had to have 2 stiches right then (Ouch!) The reason I got from the doctor that it went through is that I have a "thin cuff", couldn't really give me a reason for that. Turned out also that the biopsy was to small to test! He didn't want to do another biopsy because he felt it put me at more risk because of the thin cuff. Craziness! His suggestion was to wait a YEAR and do another pap at that time. I went to another docotor for a 2nd opinion. I had my records transferred from my doctor to the doctor I was going to for the 2nd opinion. Turend out when I went to to the 2nd doctor, she told me my doctor called her. She said he called to let her know what happened when he did the colposcopy so that if she did one, she would be extra cautious. Turened out my 2nd opinion dr. suggested waiting 6 months and do another pap. She didn't do an exam or anything. So I wait. My appointment for the pap is in Oct.
