stenotic cervix/Won't open for menses

My cervix is scarred shut after a cone surgery. I have had to have two D&Cs to free the menses. Now I may have to have a hysterectomy if we can't get it to open on it's own. Has anyone else had experience with this. A hysterectomy for this seems a bit much if the uterous is fine.
Thanks,
Pamela

Welcome to Hystersisters!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a complication from your cone biopsy. It doesn't happen often, but we have had a few ladies here previously who have experienced the same thing. Hopefully one of them will be by shortly.

I have previously looked for information on uterine cervical stenosis, and while I have found some information, I have found little on treatment of stenosis. Obviously, it's important that the cervix is open for the passage of menses.

One of the major problems is that if your cervix is inclined to become stenotic, then an additional surgery/procedure to attempt to open it may also result in stenosis. It's a difficult situation.

Have you gone for a second and/or third opinion about possible treatment options?

Good luck! I hope you are able to find the information you need.

I had Stage 1A cervical cancer 22 months ago. I was 10 weeks pregnant at the time of diagnosis and carried my little girl to term. I had one cone while pregnant and a larger one 8 months ago. No cancer was found in either cone.

Hi Pamela! Sorry to hear you are going through this. I hope you are not in any pain. I had a stenotic cervix after a cone.

My doctor did a quickie outpatient surgery to open it back up. Hate to be crude but the gist of it was that he inserted a catheter and used it to open the cervix. Another thing that may be done is a tube is actually left IN for a few weeks so that the body heals around it.

Good luck, there is hope!

I also had a stenotic cervix. Sgter many years of many gyn problems I had been doagnosed with Ashermans Syndrome (Intrauterniesynechia). This is a condition where the neotre uterus lining is scared or scared closed. I had scarring that covered ghe uterus. In my case they were never really sure why this happened. I had you dr esr;y on that was trying to do a procedure and coulnt get the onstrument in so he decided to "manually dilate the cervx", now never having been pregnant I had no concept what this would feel like and he did this with no lidocane. I subsequently had hysteroscopies done to remove the scarring within the uterus and they would numb the cerix and then be able to cut through the scarring. All thses isseus for years then once the scarring issue with the stentic cervix were "fixed", several years of unfruotful fertility treatments just to have my ovaries and uterus turn agaonst me ultimately by both developing primary cancers. Were my problems tied tp the cancer???? I will never know. hy did I have these problems when I was younger???? I will never know and now, weel the iuterus and cervix along with the tubes and a few other things are gone. Hopefully the cancer will remain gone as well.

Are you sure the doctor wasn't referring to a hysteroscopy as oppossed to a hysterectomy?? Just want to be xsure because a hysterectomy does seem drastic
