One year anniversary from hysterectomy

Hello everyone:

I will be turning a year on april 28, 2006 from my hysterectomy but just recently went in to have surgery again on march 28, 2006 for surgery to have my ovaries removed again because they thought I had cancer---had a 10 cm cyst on my left ovary now I'm trying to deal with that pain, that it seems it took more of a toll on my body and myself I hope someone can help me with this. I'm feeling very depressed too soon of a surgery.

I am so sorry that you had to endure a second surgery so soon after your hysterectomy. There are a few women here who have had to have their ovaries removed in a second surgery after their hysterectomy's also. I'm certain they will come along and offer better advice and comfort than I am able to.

It is totally understandable that you are depressed. I am just over two years post op and I can truthfully say that it has taken me this long to finally feel somewhat stronger in my body since surgery. Sometimes we forget that we are all individuals and our recovery time is different from others.

Also, a hysterectomy isn't called "major" surgery for no good reason.

I wanted to be "Superwoman" and bounce right back in the 6 week time frame that the doctor gave to me. It took me a while to realize that I wasn't Superwoman after all.

Please, please rest and pamper yourself in all ways possible. And remember that the longer you rest and take care of yourself, the better off you will be in the future. Allow your body all of the time it wants and needs to heal. Don't compare yourself to anyone else's time frame of healing. Your body is unique. But, your body WILL heal. Really.

I am dropping by with some information about endometrisos for you, as that is why I had to have my hyst. Here is a link to the section of our resource database that covers endo: Endo/Adeno Resources.

Endo is basically when the endometrial tissue lining the inside of your uterus makes its way outside your uterus and emplants in various places. It can be microscopic in nature in its earliest stages so it appears yours was probably undetected at the time of your hyst a year ago. As endo is feed by estrogen, your ovaries were feeding the endo on your ovaries.

Now you will need to talk to your dr, or find a dr who is very knowledgeable about endo and HRT, to find the right hormone balance for you to help with your emotions and health. Any estrogen you take in can feed any other endo that was possibly left behind.

Feel free to search through the site for support and information about your situation. Best wishes to you!

Thank you for the info, I just found out that I had that on my left ovary, so I requested to have them both removed since I had a 9 cm cyst with endo on my tubes. Now I feel compeletly empty inside, need to deal with that. Are you aware of having endo anywhere else?

Yes, I have endo in various places. Most of mine was cauterized during a lap prior to my hyst, and the rest was removed during my hyst. However, what was on my bowel walls was left untouched as it was too risky to removed. Therefore, I have continued issuses with endo--I have had more pain in the last couple years than I ever had prior to my hyst. It is from the endo, adhesions, scar tissue, and cysts. And my ovaries continue to feed this disease and allow cysts.

Ovaries and endo

How would I know if I have endo anywhere else? Does the ob/gyn know about this? I'm confused now more then ever and I'm also scared that I might have endo somewhere else. What is your advise to me.

Well, unfortunately, endo does not show up on any test! The only way to know if you have endo is to have a lap. I would suggest you make a list of questions and sit down and talk to your dr. I also suggest you find either an endo specialist (Finding an endometriosis specialist) or a reproductive endocrinologst (a gyn who is usually very knowledgable about endo) if you can. Having a second or even third and fourth opinion is very beneficial to ladies with endo.

Endo is a very tricky disease and is treated differently by each dr. Additionally, your overall health is taken into consideration. Some ladies with late stage endo, as I have, find we really had no pain associated with our endo prior to our diagnoses. Others have tremendous pain with early stage endo. Therefore, a dr may treat someone with pain more aggressively than someone without pain. Or if you have other health issues as I do, you just wait and see, as I am at a point where the cure would be worse than the disease.

There are medications that can attempt to slow down endo:
Medications for endo
Endo and Post Hyst HRT
Progesterone to treat endo

Reading through the Endo/Adeno: Stories of Triumph over Pain may also give you courage and help you find what has worked for other ladies.

in there!
