1 Year Post-op - all is well!

Wow, one year post-op. I can't believe how time has flown. I would like for every woman that is pre-op to know that there is life after a hysterectomy. My surgery and recovery went off without a hitch. I followed doctor's orders to the letter and I'm so glad I did. It paid off. The whole ordeal is now a distant memory and my life is back to normal. If I try hard I can still remember the emotional roller coaster of the pre-op waiting but I no longer think about it every day like I did for several months after surgery. I vowed that I would come back in here often and offer support, but alas, life happened. I have no regrets about the surgery. If I had it to do over again I would, even if it included the trauma of having my long-time doctor abandon me as a patient. My new doctor is a gem and in a weird sort of way, I'm looking forward to seeing him for my annual exam. I want to tell him how great I'm doing and thank him again for taking me on as a patient.

The few years before surgery were wrought with pain, bleeding, bloating, hormones and procedures. If I have a regret, it's waiting so long to find a doctor that would offer me more than drugs and waiting for menopause. All that is gone now and I look forward to the light of day every day.

If you're waiting for surgery or still thinking about it, take heart, it does get better. You must decide whether to live the rest of your life feeling the way you do now or having the surgery and 'living' the rest of your life. Good luck, and thank you to Hystersisters for the endless support and wealth of information you provided before and after my surgery.
