Allergy?

I just wanted to know if anyone else has a reaction to wearing pantiliners or other pads. I had TVT/TAH/BSO on April 4th. Had a UTI with some leakage after I got home and took med for it. I also had leakage before my surgery and would have to wear a pad and after a few days of wearing one, my skin would puff up and get red, itchy and would burn in some places. This would happen during my period too and using tampons made it worse. Luckily I don't have to worry about that one anymore but I have had some leakage or discharge or something and after I wore a poise pad 2 days in a row, my skin is irritated again. I'm sorry this is so long, but this just aggravates me! Hope this isn't TMI but I figured I would ask anyway and see if anyone else has this problem. Thanks in advance to any sister who reads this!

Allergy?

May, a lot of the time it can be either the leakage itself OR a reaction to some of the deodorizing products that are used in the products themselves that can cause such reactions. What has your doctor said about it? In the past, I have used medicated baby powder that has had zinc in it for myself but I'm not sure you can even find that still on the shelves. Also, it might help if you make sure you use only non-deodorant pantiliners. I also made sure that I used only 100% cotton undies and made sure I had clothes on that were not too tight especially those times when I was when I was more irritated. I do hope this helps a little. But do be sure to ask your doctor if you have continual irritation; yeast infections can show up unexpectedly, too. Best of good luck to you........

Allergy?

I had to wear pads for 9 weeks after my op and know what you mean. Some are worse than others. I found Always Ultra pads with a cotton feel the best, and I found pads more comfortable than panty liners because they were larger. They are not at all bulky though. I found the plastic and the edges on a smaller liner irritated the very tender skin down there.x

Allergy?

My sister-in-law has always been allergic to sanitary products. She says that the unbranded cheapies are the best without odor control. She is allergic to the chemeicals they use for odor control. Also, she says the best treatment is diaper cream and non-allogenic baby wipes instead of toilet paper. She is also allergic to most toilet paper. Hope it helps...

Allergy?

Thanks to all of you who responded to my question. I have used Desitin, hydrocortisone cream and Monistat from the little tube of cream that's in the pack on the spots before. Sometimes it's like a little area of diaper rash almost! Leaking makes those places burn and wearing a pad all day doesn't help at all. I had a TVT but I found that when I had a UTI after I came home from the hospital, I was leaking some. Took Macrobid for 5 days and went to urologist on Weds and he said urine was clear even though I have pain and some urgency (I have IC). I just hope the Macrobid doesn't develop a yeast infection (argh!!). Hopefully I won't have to wear too many pads from now on but sometimes even a change in detergent and in the summertime, sweating will kick it up a notch. I guess I have whined enough. Thank you all for your time!
