Had Total Abdominal Hyst. 2 weeks ago

A friend recommended you site ....I think I have been doing too much, been on my own for the most part as hubby works, kids are in school, mom works , sister moved 4 hours away... hit my 2 week mark yesterday and am feeling really painful and sore....been trying to do without so much pain meds but gonna have to give in I think....also, how long did anyone else have to wait before taking a nice hot soaking bath instead of quick little showers?? Thanks, Sbell85

i was able to take baths right away, my dr actually prescribed two baths a day. but you should go by what your dr says. he also did that with my c-sections. i have never had any problems with it and i really think that it helped with my recovery. My dr said that baths help in healing because it increases the blood flow which then increases healing. i also had a TAH with ovaries taken. anyway i hope you get to feeling better. call your dr and ask about the baths. take care

I was unable to take a bath until week 4 post op. It felt great by the way!!!!! It sounds like you are doing too much! I felt really crummy the first 10 days and then better after 14 days. Try to take it easy, wear your binder if you have one, it helps with pain and swelling. I still wear mine whenever I am at home. Hugs Raymo

Thanks so much~~ I have my 2 week appt. tomorrow so will see what he has to say~~ I have just had more or different pains and soreness yesterday and today~~ and the blues are starting to come more often and it irritates me because it hurts to cry or blow my nose...luckily though my allergies have given me a break...I had a sinus infection that was clearing up when I went in to surgery...they actually had planned to do a little more, remove some old scar tissue and a bit of a tummy tuck but my blood count was low and my doc wanted to get in and do what he had to and get out to keep blood loss at a minimal and not have to give a transfusion....he was pretty pleased with the way surgery went all in all so just hope I haven't messed something up by being at home~~

Thanks, I don't have a belly binder, didn't even know about them until I got here but my nurse told me to get some support panties and my mom found some for me and they seem to help but I switch out with my regulars some too....I can't wait to take a relaxing bath ;o( I've always been a "bath" person anyway and so I'm really missing my hot soaking bubble baths~~~

I am 2 weeks today. I also had a TAH (tubes & ovaries as well) along with a TVT. Like you, I'm trying to wean off the pain meds. I'm trying to only take them at night now. I took 4 Advils about 1 hour before my checkup with the Urologist today. My GYN said no baths until at least 6 weeks post-op. Even longer for the pool -- which is where I'm dying to go!!

I've never felt more exhausted in my life. All I did today was go to the doctor and it completely wore me out.

I know what you mean~~ I dread getting out tomorrow and going to the doc but with the increased pain I have been feeling I know I can't delay it anway...I still have steri-strips on my incision and it is seeping in different areas and has red spots in some areas I am always exhausted anyway and have been even more so....I also have very low thyroid and I know that contributes to it some as well...I'm just looking forward to my first pain free day and then my first month of not having 3 weeks of the 4 filled with pain and agony day and night~~

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!

You might find our Checkpoints helpful, letting you know some general dos and don'ts for different points during your recovery.

I do hope your dr will clear you to take a bath soon. It was months before I was allowed to (due to complications) and I wanted one soooo bad!

Best wishes for you appt tomorrow!

P.S. Tell your friend for recommding HS!

My steri-strips starting coming off a few days after I got home from the hospital. I call the dr office and they said I could take them off. It felt fabulous to get them off.

I am also hypothyroid. My endo said to wait a few weeks before coming in to let the hrt "get established."

Let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow. I hope everything is okay. My follow-up with the gyn is on Monday. I'm a bit nervous about having anyone poking around on me.
